eSims, what is your experience.

Just bought my first ever esim… through Agoda, for thailand. AUD6.89 for 10days, 50GB plus calling minutes. Paid, received a QR code and operational one minute later.

Surprised that it works for ipad too. Set-up is completely automatic.

Might be worthwhile searching klook, agoda and the like for country-specific esims.

Yeah, you don’t want to be triggering $10 pd, everyday….

But they do support wifi calling. From/to Oz.

That’s quite a good deal and appears to be a resale of the local telco.

How did you find it?

It might also be a peculiarity of the Thai market. I’ve seen other eSIMs that come with calls/txt with the Thai country plans.

Also came across Firsty.
Which has a "Free" ad-supported tier designed for Email, Maps. Claims 160+ countries.

Possibly worth having as a backup.
Their paid plans are €1.00-2.50 a day, so maybe not as attractive.

Haven't used it myself.

I had a go with Firsty last week using the free ad-supported tier. It gave me 30 minutes of access for watching a 15 second ad. Watching multiple ads does not stack additional 30 minutes, it just resets the clock on the 30 minute access. It connected me to the Vodafone network when I tried it at home.

I had a bit of a look. You watch an ad and it gives you access for predefined period of time (varies by country), usually an hour. Once it runs out you need to watch another ad to extend it.
I might have a play around. I'm wondering if, once your time runs out, you'd still be able to watch the ads or if you'd need to find WiFi to do that.

I was able to watch an ad without any other connectivity once my allocated time had run out.

The suggestion from an ozbargain thread is the Firsty free plan is capped at about 300kbps (hence light services only), and that after you get the notification that time has run out, you have a 15Mb data allocation to watch a new ad.

So if you watch the ad immediately you can continue. If you keep using data then you might have to connect to Wifi or another Sim to watch the ad.

Sounds like worth keeping in the back pocket then, for things like a transit or if you have trouble with your paid for eSIM.

I've found Eskimo really great, but the one strange gap they have is that, despite being a Singapore based company, they don't work in Singapore.

Anyone seen any decent BF promos?

Saily has an extra 5GB promo - which isn’t much use to me.

Flexiroam has another 50% OFF all 5GB+ Data Plans. Which I might take as 30D Euro regional plan for US$13.50. Airalo is currently about US$20.

Looks like it might be country by country and not a region.

Does anyone have any good esims for France that use multiple networks and also 5G ?

I used to get France eSIM, from $7.50 AUD | World’s first eSIM store · Airalo which used (Bon Bon) Orange Bouygues SFR 4G/5G but they have changed to (Elan) Orange 4G only :(
I used the chat bot on Kolet and got this reply;
Yes, we use multiple networks in France. You can find the list of our partner networks by tapping the "i" icon on the Kolet app's home page. If you experience connection issues, you can manually connect to one of our partner networks. Our app makes it easy to stay connected in France - just download, install your eSIM, and activate your plan when you arrive.
And a further quick response from a person;
Is the service 5G?

Yes, our service in France includes 5G coverage! We partner with Bouygues Telecom, Orange, and SFR, all of which offer 5G networks. To ensure you're connected to 5G, you can check your device settings. On iOS, go to Settings > Cellular > Voice & Data and select 5G. For Android, it's typically in Settings > Mobile Network > Network Mode.

The freebie could be handy for a short transit!

There’s an EU plan lurking in the Country list - same price is individual countries by the look. Which might seem odd, but I’m guessing that it probably uses one home EU country and “roams” in the others?

I can’t find positive confirmation, but I would expect Flexiroam to connect at 5G. Pretty sure it did for me earlier in the year.

Airalo lists Orange 4G.

Concerning our Network partners, you can click on the "i" for you to have more information about them and their connection

In Germany, we work with Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2 for instance. And We have a European plan that covers 30 countries 😊

As from the above posts you can see the Kolet eSim uses multiple main stream providers and is a 5G service.
There is a referral plan to get the additional benefits and I'll start a new referral thread for this.

What’s in it for them

2 days of free Internet, up to 1 GB, anywhere.

A 10% discount each time they purchase a plan

10 Miles every time they spend €1

250 Miles (Flying Blue) if they refer a friend too.
