Re: How many engines can you fly on?

Well a positive point we can take out of this is that this pilot was able to manage to land by himself, under possible duress and increased stress levels, and do so (for what it appears) safely. I know that pilots can land by themselves but doing so under a highly pressurised situation like what happened, that's another thing.

Except that the co-pilot locked the pilot out of the coughpit, as the co-pilot was the one who had hijacked the aircraft. He spoke to ATC requesting that he not be sent back home, and then climbed out the window to hand himself in. So now he faces 20 years asylum (before parole). Hmmm.

Why he didn't think to do this after he had landed at the intended destination (FCO) is unknown.

Well...let's see. He caused the duress. He had an autopilot. He placed everyone in danger by operating the aircraft to near its fuel limits, and also solo in an area of high terrain. He could have caught the train from Italy.

The word I'd use to describe him would be deleted by the word censor.
