I've been saving up the points for a EY flight MEL-AUH-MAN mid next year for myself, Mrs777 and young Mr .777 who will be about 18 months old at that time. In previous experience i've booked reward flights for the 3 of us MEL-LAX on VA and young .777 was charged 10% of the adult fare in points. I had assumed the deal would be the same on Eithad but to my surprise i've just discovered that .777 counts as a full adult fare (125,000 pts) despite not actually needing a seat.

I haven't tried the call centre yet as i'm not actually ready to book but does anyone know if this is a bug in the online system or whether this is what it will cost?

Not sure whether this helps, but found the following under the T & Cs for Flight Rewards on Etihad's website:

9.2.10. Flight Rewards can be made for infants under 2 years of age, and will be priced at 10% of the normal mileage cost for GuestSeat Rewards.
9.2.11. Mileage required for OpenSeat Rewards for Infants and Children is as per the fare rules of the class being booked for the OpenSeat at the time of booking.

Looks like something screwy between the VA rewards system and the Etihad one. Perhaps the call centre can help.
