Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here might have advice or has gone through a similar experience with Etihad Airways.

A few months ago, I paid $100 USD for a tier match to Gold status with Etihad Guest. The deal was that I’d get 12 months of Gold status if I took one qualifying flight, which I did. I even asked the gate agent to confirm my Etihad Guest number was on the ticket, and it was printed right on my boarding pass. But later, I discovered all my points were somehow credited to Virgin Australia instead of Etihad. Now I’ve been downgraded to Silver.

Since then, I’ve called Etihad’s Indian call center over six times and tried chatting through the Etihad app. Every interaction has been a nightmare. I’ve been lied to, hung up on, and repeatedly promised callbacks that never happen. They’re now telling me to email different departments, which feels like I’m being passed around with no resolution in sight.

For context, I paid extra to fly business class, thinking Etihad’s premium service would be worth it, but I feel completely ignored and mistreated. I’ve even had inconsistent onboard experiences with last-minute equipment changes, and I’ve ended up on older planes that don’t match what’s shown on Etihad’s website.

Has anyone else experienced issues like this with Etihad Guest? Is there any effective way to escalate this within Etihad? I’d really appreciate any advice on how to get this resolved. Thanks in advance!

Agree with @Scr77 … you have only one flight, good time to quit while you’re….Behind.

Why so desperate to give EY more of your hard earned when it treats like garbage?

It’s now more to keep the status match and use the privileges that gold status brings with their partner airlines, especially virgin Australia. Use of the lounge on domestic flights etc is always a nice perk.

I also like to have the good status available if other airlines offer a status match.

How did your VA ffn get into the EY reservation?
Booked the EY flight while logged into VA?
Cash paid ticket on EY? Booked on EY web site? Route?
Does the EY e-ticket have your EY ffn on it?
Before getting credited to EY will need to get VA to reverse out what has been credited.

Having had EY Guest it’s a pretty useless program TBH and with VA separating from the marriage it’s another partner gone

I found the only way to get anywhere with EY was to document every interaction including names, and then find an email address for a senior executive and send the details. I din't get an answer from the exec, but I did get the money they owed me within 2 weeks after chasing them for over 6 months.

Maybe cut your losses and request a credit card chargeback for the $100 status match?

I have started doing exactly this! 😜 Taking names and dates and times of calls.

Would the Australian Consumer agencies be any help do you think?

When I initially booked the flights… I asked the number to be changed at the check in counter on each leg of the journey. I couldn’t believe that even after it showed on the boarding pass it still went to VA for every flight!!
