2 hours of Googling and searching threads has not revealed a definite answer.

May I ask someone who knows for sure:

At Tullamarine airport, is Europcar's fleet actually on site, a walk away from the terminal? Or do you still have to get a shuttle bus out to their car park (which can add 30mins)?

For memory, Avis are the only ones I remember seeing with actual cars on site.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I've searched around this part of the forum but come up with nothing.

Thanks for your time and help, fellow travelers.

No, all the big ones are onsite, including Europcar and Dollar even.

Thanks Markis,

Just out of interest, do you know when they started having onsite availability? I remember about 4 years ago swanning up to the counter and going through the whole process of hiring from them, doing all the paper work, and then they made us wait until they had 6 people before they ran the shuttle across to pick up the car - which, as I mentioned, delayed us half an hour or so.

I'm glad to hear you can just walk across the road from the terminal and collect the car from there. Good enough reason to choose them again and earn some VPs.

Its been a while, at least 4 years, previously they shuttled you to the Tulla office which saved the airport fee which is around 15%!

Rental Cars - Melbourne Airport

BTW its not Dolla, its Red Spot!

For Melbourne Airport, the airport fee is closer to 20%, but seems to vary between car hire company - 19% for Hertz and 17% for Avis. Not sure about Europcar - they don't disclose this on their website anymore.

The 15% figure being the difference between pickup at Tulla versus the airport for a quote.

I rented a car there a couple of months ago.

Europcar have the kiosk downstairs by the baggage claim belts in domestic. You do the documentation there then they give you the keys and directions to their parking spaces. The cars are parked in the downstairs of the parking building (hotel?) just across the road from the terminal. Europcar are squeezed down the side a bit, the other companies seem to have slightly better spots. Maybe 5-10 minute walk from the terminal

Mentlegen,

I can confirm, having flown through Tullamarine and collected a Europcar on Monday, that indeed they are just across the road of the terminal, a short 100m or so. Europcar had a counter in the terminal by the baggage collection area, however I noticed that it was unmanned and we had to make our way across the road to do all the paperwork - not that it made much of a difference for us.

Cheers one and all,

CB

Going by the Europcar website, the Tullamarine pick up area is now "offsite". Can anyone confirm this?

I just checked the Europcar website - still shows terminal building. Are you aware there are two Europcar locations in Tullamarine? One at the airport and one off-site. Airport is shown as Melbourne Airport and off-site is shown as Melbourne Tullamarine. My guess is you chose Melbourne Tullarmarine thinking it meant the airport, but it actually refers to the suburb of Tullamarine.

Yeah that was my mistake - I actually searched for "Tullamarine" and all that comes up is the Tullamarine off-site airport pick up. Funnily enough, Melbourne Airport does not come up at all as a nearby pick up location even with Tullamarine searched. Ergo my confusion.

Anyway, just have to remember to search for Melbourne Airport as the pick up and we're set.

Giddy up,

CB
