Just noticed that Europcar now has the E Class ! :p

Priced a little above the A6

I wonder if the Audi's will go and Mercedes will be the new Prestige range ?

Question (slightly OT), is the max 200kms included with the E Class per day or per rental period?

Nice. I was looking for a Merc near end of August and was pretty disappointed to see that Hertz appears to be retiring the line (and Hertz is annoying me anyway). Despite some pretty enlightening reports of dodgy business from Europcar I'll have to go and check them out.

After some fiddling around of dates and cities I finally got the website to show unconfirmed "availability" in Melbourne on a date in August for $167.96 per day, give or take.

Each day of rental seems to come with 200 km - rent for two days and it's 400 km.

Yes Hertz are and have been phasing out the current prestige collection for 6 months.

No one seems to know what is coming, but another prestige range is coming soon....

For me

BMW
X1
X3
320
520

Would make sense

I could have sworn Europcar's standard CDW was $3500 a few weeks ago, I was looking at an Audi. Now it seems to be 5K$ across the prestige line, even the low end Audi's. More than most CC/travel insurance will cover.

Oh, and by the by, a one day hire of the E class = $159 in MEL, the Audi A5 Cabriolet is $5358 (!!!!), seriously, anyone paying 5400$ per day for a car hire???

I was thinking the same thing but you are right

I posted back on here in May and the excess was $3500 :( now I have seen that it's now $5000...........

Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Platinum Rewards Credit Card - Westpac covers up to $5000 and is currently my card of choice with all the "enhancements" to the Amex Charge card :(

Just noticed that the excess on the E Class is $7,500, excluding all of the other costs added (GST, Admin fee, Airport surcharge)!! Ouch!! Almost $10K if you rent from many airports!!

On reflection, its probably the CC companies that need to raise their coverage. The standard excess cover for those cards that cover this type of incident at all has been 3-4-5K for many many years, whilst the new car value of these higher end cars has been steadily climbing

Purchased Travel Insurance policies have the same problem.

Has anyone ever received the car the booked? We booked a Mercedes and got the Renault Megane.

Bahahahaha. If I booked and paid for the Benz and got offered the ****eault Megane I would drive it through the front window!

I booked a VW Passat in Europe with Hertz and they gave me a B-Class Benz. That lasted about 15 seconds before I cracked the coughs and got an Audi A4 instead.

Did you accept that or kick up? To some folks it's just a car and they don't care but for me who's a car tart it makes a difference.

These days I generally reserve the exact car with Hertz Prestige...

These cars have actually been coming down in value

I booked the Mercedes a couple of weeks out and a couple of days later received an email confirming I would get it. And get it I did - an E250 CGI.

Despite a strengthening dollar and reduced import duty in recent times, I don't see any real evidence of any sustained price reduction (sales and promotions aside), in relation to Merc's anyway ... perhaps other brands have seen price reductions.

We were in Paris and their office was just off Champs Elysees. My husband was stressed enough about how to get around the Arc de Triomphe round about so we let it slide. ;). Then they lost his prestige card and said they'd given it back to us. They hadn't.

More coughpy service because with all the angst we didn't check the petrol. We had travelled maybe 50ks out of Paris and noticed it was down to half.

I agree with you & it has been occurring on all Mercs, BMWs and Porsches.

I think that the car companies are using these favourable changes to boost their margins. On the plus side, they have also being using some of these favourable changes to leave the list prices unchanged but add more features that would have previously been considered extras (and very expensive ones at that if you as the customer ticked that box). This allows the car companies to make more profits and maintain the second hand market prices so that previous customers don't have any more kittens when trade-in time comes around.

I always find it amusing that when the AUD falls, the vehicle list prices increase almost the next day (even though stock was already in port or on a ship) yet when the AUD rises it takes 6 mths before any list price or equipment lists change for the benefit of the consumer.
