Europcar NZ charging me damage fee

LOL - Please let me know how you go with that, when there is one person at the desk, it's late in the evening and they refuse to come to the car

I look foward to hearing them sign this waiver....

I have stood my ground and refused to move on one occasion untill the vehicle had been signed back in I informed them that I would not accept any responsibility for any damage claimed if they did not csign in the car. On one occasion I made a call to the car hire company complaining that the agent was refusing to check the vehicle and that i would not accept any charges later. They then spoke to the agent who came out straight away.

It can be done if you are persistent enough however if your goal is to get to the lounge and drink and eat well so be it at your peril.

Also in this case as it was on a company credit card on company visit as long as you have the appropriate documentation at time of completing expenses I cant see how that would present hardship to you to you or your company. I also sugest that if your company uses this hire company on a regular basis that you advise them that you will be changing companies unless this sorted out quickly and favourably

No staff member is going to sign a waiver!

Do you take a copy of this waiver with you in case it's needed or just write it up as you go???

You will not get a staff member to sign some piece of paper that you have shoved in-front of them while making ridiculous demands

As you've never asked anyone to do this, but Ansett has, and succeeded, I'm not sure why you take that position. All it takes is a one line statement saying that if the car isn't inspected then no responsibility is taken for any damage recorded later. You could take a photo of it along with a picture of the rental office.

I just would never leave a rental car with no evidence confirming no damage. Photos a minimum.

Just an update.

It took Europcar a week to get the damage documents to me (which didn't contain any photos of the damage.. rather a couple of disagrams) before I was able to lodge a dispute.

After a week I still had not heard anything so I rang them to be told that the fleet manager had looked at the car and the damage fee would stand. I pointed out that there were no pictures so the woman said she would escalate to the national manager.

Within a couple of hours I received an email that Europcar would credit the $300 as a gesture of goodwill due to policies not being followed by the Europcar staff.

Great result on the last day of the month when my expenses are due!
