Hi, for those Gold members who selected the Europcar membership option, how long after making your selection did your status get upgraded with Europcar?

In the Velocity email it says it can take up to 20 days for Europcar to email you, but that seems really long??! Is the actual wait time quicker than that? I want to make a booking

And for the upgrade benefit - can you automatically confirm the upgrade model during online booking? Or do you have to wait until car pick-up to confirm the upgrade - and if so, how reliable is the upgrade benefit?

Thank you!

In my experience, you find out the upgrade when you pick up the car (sometimes a bit earlier, if their system emails you your contract before you pick up the car). Fairly reliable in my experience..

Thanks oz_mark.

I am going to FNQ with the family and want an entry level 4wd (something simple like sportage, not proper 4wd) so just debating whether to try and pay one level down and trust the upgrade will come through, or pay for a sportage / X trail to be safe

Would be worried that FNQ is franchised rather than company owned.
I found in regional WA that you rarely got an upgrade and filled out a heap of paperwork every time despite status.
I've had Hertz status as well and found outside of capital cities hire car status is pretty worthless

FNQ is are all corporate locations with the exception of Proserpine who are Agency

I'm sure I did this ages ago and hired at Cairns a week ago. Still only shows me as lower tier privilege. Car on offer was as usual for my car type a MG. Refused it as last time different location it broke down. Was given an ASX, faulty touch pad and navigation was u/s. 🫣

How long did you take did get your emaili? I got my IHG hotel membership but months have gone by with nothing from Europcar.

I have elite whatever their highest status is, and didn't get jack when hiring cars from them. No upgrades, nothing. Have the membership card with highest status and everything. It was worthless to me. That was hiring cars in Australia, UK, and Germany.

I even booked a twin cab ute with canopy for a family camping trip, for pickup at 5pm the evening before we departed on a public holiday... booked 12 weeks in advance and confirmed... just for no vehicle to be available when I arrived, and to be offered some sort of sedan, or a filthy muddy mine-spec flatbed ute instead. Thank god Budget next door had vehicles in stock.

The depots seems to be independant franchises. Mine (northern sydney) has staff who can barely speak english let alone care about customers.

If tha'ts how Europcar treat Elites, good luck to vanilla customers.

No nothing. Gave up. Don't care as I don't hire often, but I can imagine for those who do it would be very frustrating - Velocity team should really address this.

It's funny - I think with all rental companies it can be luck of the draw. I've had recent experiences with budget where they imputed an incorrect rate in the system, over charged my sister in law thousands, then made me hound them for weeks (Qantas style) to get it rectified.

I applied for the Europcar status last month but have heard nothing since.

Hired twice with Europcar out of SYD and have had MG's both times, the second one nearly got us killed courtesy of excessive acceleration lag on a lane change 😑😑

Hired with them recently in the UK (Kings Cross, London to Edinburgh) they gave me a Vauxhall mini-SUV thing that was manual but surprisingly good.

Having hired with Hertz for many years and having had status as well, I've found that many times it's about how nice you can be at check in and occasionally luck of the draw. 😎

Vauxhall Mocca? Yeah it's quite good isn't it? I actually prefer manuals anyhow (you always seem to have more control)...I see some crazy things on autos when cornering here in Australia. Hate the MG personally. Mate hired one at PER. Broke down by Bunbury!

has anyone got elite status through VA? I waited my 20 business days. Called VA, they sent a chaser. Called European to make sure everything was ok with my account. 5 business days later… nothing!

I want the status as it allows me to add an extra driver for free, saving $25 per booking!,

I got it eventually via status. It took for ever and twice I contacted VA about it. If there is even a small difference in your name.between VA and Europcar they seem unable to get it right without manual change. If there is a difference perhaps tell VA when you next speak. They took note of.that and passed it on to Euroocar and it worked quickly after that. Also Europcar extended the validity period for me since it took 3 months to get it activated. Yes, the free additional driver is worth it.

Thanks! I'll go back and review all my details! Pretty sure they match as I only opened europcar a few weeks ago!
