Europcar Privilege Changes in 2014

Given I started this thread, I'm disappointed.
On that basis ........ and given the resultant outcome ............Could you hold off starting a new thread for a while Deka ....this one has certainly gone 'pear shaped' quickly.

In the past, I have used the discount of my Privilege Executive card for my rental car bookings and most of the times, Europcar came out in front when comparing the usual suspects. Since the changes have been announced have been announced, I haven't had any need to book rental cars, however I previously also compared my rates against this website: https://microsite.europcar.com/accorhotels/?page=201101_20pct

Accor LeClub members get up to 20% discount and frequently, the rates on this website compared favourable against the rates I got on the "normal" Europcar website, using my Europcar status. To me, it seems that this site is open to everyone, and frequent flyer points can be credited to any partner, not only Accor. Unfortunately, this site does only work when returning the car at the same station.

I hope this might be helpful for some here!

Who is Elite VIP?
And just be clear there is no discount at home or abroad now?
Tomydoor is not available in Australia?
Has any one got the double upgrade?
Have the standard rate increased?
Does the 5 day discount promo get added VIP elite benefit?

I booked an intermediate class and got an A3 at PER last week and I'm only Executive! 3 more rentals before the months out, will keep you all updated

So 8 days booking before VIP Elite!
This booking only 6 days!
Next month then.......

Pretty average service that as Elite you actually have to tell them each time you book more than 5 days that you want the 15% discount that they offer to the punters....CHRIST....who running this business model?

Has anyone had any luck using their Privilege card to:

"Get up to 10% discount during the week and at weekends at Accor hotels!"

I've tried logging in using the link on my Europcar login but no luck.
Maybe there a promo code for card holders?

Re: Europcar Privilege Elite Benefit for Platinum Members

I wouldn't hire with them,

But beware there changes would be worse than QF

I gave up on Europcar before I received their "Discover your new Privilege Program" email. Following two rentals with minor dramas, the last one I was charged for a higher vehicle class than I received and only received half the privilege tier discount. Following that up with an email, I didn't receive a response for 6 weeks so sent a second enquiry which also disappeared into cyber-space..

I have priced it once not that long ago - logged into Europcar, clicked on link (in My Europcar).

Worked, but the discount is worthless - it only discounts the full rate, not any already discounted rate. In most cases, you'll get a better rate not using the discount!

OK, as a Europcar executive (I probably can get elite if I activated the VA SM), I have a good example booked for 6 days in AUH. Through Europcar the booking is $1195.86 (base rate + cross border fee x1 and additional driver fee x1) and through the site linked to by Peter78, with the same inclusions, same date range and same vehicle type is $997.23.

That's a saving of almost AUD$200. Pretty substantial for a single rental just for using a different website. Does Europcar have a BRG?

The downside is that the only option for reward points is Accor (which I am a member, but don't use). It does suggest I can add others at a later date, but trying to add a frequent traveller number at a rental counter may be pointless but I suppose a retro claim may be an option.

Does anyone have better deals?

I just tried another Europcar site booking (the one I used above was booked a month or so ago) and it came back as AUD$1746.32 . Then I tried logging in via their Corporate Accounts using the Resaweb page. It accepted my standard ID number and password and the exact same booking came back at AUD$1086.92. Not as cheap as AUD$997.23 from the Accor link but head and tails better than the AUD$1746.32 off the main Europcar page. Seems Joe public is once more being taken as a fool.

EDIT: I just re-made the booking through the Accor site and when I checked "My Europcar" booking page it shows the booking as AUD$1029.21 which is just marginally cheaper than the Corporate page and seems Europcar works on a different exchange rate or adds an exchange fee of about AUD$32 so I guess it appears so far, best prices are available through either the Corporate page or the Accor link unless someone has a better tip!

How did you get such a good corp rate?

How did you get such a good corp rate?

Just logged in via the corporate accounts log in. Entered my Europcar member number and it accepted it. I don't have a prearranged Europcar corp. discount. I have tried other bookings, but nothing as much as the discount I mentioned above.

I've done it a few times since that post and it's come back cheaper again, but only marginally so I haven't bothered changing it, but I will be keeping my eye on it!

Has anyone worked out the new Europcar tier level validity period?

I'm not sure if I recollect correctly, but I think Europcar tier validity period used to be one calendar year. Now with the change to two years, has anyone worked out what the T&Cs are saying? They seem to be using a start base for rewards as 17 February 2014, but for tier calculations they state it uses the "old" counter. What confuses me, is that my profile shows qualifying rentals back to Dec 2012, which is within two years but not as per the "old" counter, which should by my thinking only go back to Jan 2013. Confusing me more, is my expiry date, which is given as 06/09/2016.........and which I'm not entirely sure if that is 6 Sept 2016 or 9 June 2016 (I assume the former), as neither date seems to make much sense. I have no idea if the two year qualifying timeframe is from two years ago (basically a rolling period like VA have done), or 2 calendar years, or two years from 6 June 2014, or two years from 6 Sept 2014, or two years from 17 Feb 2014 or something else.

Has anyone worked it out?........(please)

On the upside, the T&Cs do state there is a soft landing and I'm thinking about the worth of going for VIP to get the free priority pass membership and possibly the ToMyDoor (some EU locales only).

Nope! Family member VIP and unless the senhor staff serve her the upgrade is not given..... No idea of 2 year expiry but I'm sure you will find out.... Probably at the counter as communication is poor!

Are you saying one of your family members hold VIP status but don't get any benefits offered? If yes, then which Europcar stations are failing in this? My experience (as an Executive status) is that most times I do get an upgrade but smaller stations often don't. I have hired out of Surfers Paradise many times and never once received an upgrade and when I ask about it, they tell me they only have a few cars held there so it's not possible. I think that is rubbish, as I'm pretty sure they bring the ordered cars up from the airport holding yard to suit and it would be just as easy to bring up an upgrade as it is to bring up the ordered vehicle.

I've also had a number of leisure rentals since this new system was implemented and have not yet received any of the promised emails with a code for the freebie days. Has anyone received those yet?
