Good afternoon all,

Just a quick query - has anyone had any experience making use of Europcar's Privilege Elite benefit "free additional driver cover"?

When setting up a new booking through the Europcar website logged into my Elite account, checking the 'additional driver' box under extras still adds an extra cost.

Does one simply not check that box, make the reservation for one, then get the extra driver added at the counter??

In case any other Europcar opted Plats were wondering, as Markis10 pointed out here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....s/free-europcar-rental-weekend-how-34922.html to organise the "Free weekend rental" you need to contact the Loyalty Programs coordinator (the same person who would have emailed you confirming your complimentary upgrade to the relevant status) to make arrangements.

Safe flying,

CB

I've only done it once and that booking was over the phone. No additional charge.

Picked one up on Saturday. I did not have the additional driver included on my online booking, however had SWMBO added at the rental office without any issue.

Just wanted to confirm my experience with Europcar:

I was able to add the additional drive at the counter for no charge and no issue.

We were upgraded from an intermediate (Hyundai i30 5 door or similar) up to an Audi A41.8 wagon with less than 10,000kms on it. Oh the sweet smell of fresh leather upholstery. A pleasure to transit up to the Hay plains.

My Privilege Elite card had not arrived in my letterbox as yet, but they didn't even request to site it or anything, so it's pretty safe to have confidence in them to deliver on the status bonuses.

If I get similar treatment when I go to hire a car in France in April, I will shed a tear for the glory of the value of VPlat.

Safe flying,

CB,

My experience above was in the UK (Bradford to be precise), so it's not just an Australian benefit, nor should it be; although I didn't swing an Audi - it was a (brand new) Skoda!

FYI, I had to show my card at the desk and insist they provide the upgrade from the tiny Peugot I had booked. Took a chat with the manager before they ok'd it. Being a smallish, non-airport site I don't think they had seen a Priv Elite before.

Have a car booked at BSL next Friday and in MUC in May so will see what sort of upgrades they can offer on the continent. Have a Cruze (haven't lived in Oz for a few years so have never heard of that model) booked at MEL next month too so am hoping for a nice upgrade from that - maybe an Audi :D

We experienced upgrades from compacts to a Mercedes and new Skoda S/wagon in both Florence and Geneva. Both of the original bookings were done on-line and the nicer cars were there when we arrived (no asking!). I thought it worked out great. Staff were very helpful at both locations as well.
