Not sure whether if this is the correct location for this post. We have just evacuated by slide from FR8841 enroute to Ibiza, after a fire in row 12. We were seated in row 6 E,F and were made aware by screaming behind us and then pax from behind surging up the aisle; very shortly after the smell of phosphorous and smoke filling the cabin. The front doors were still open and the Ryanair crew quickly deployed the slide and we evacuated in a reasonably orderly fashion. There was a jam at the bottom of the slide with about 4 to 5 ladies unable to exit the slide. I jumped off the side of the slide and helped to haul the stuck people and further sliders off the front of the slide. Eventually I could hear my wife who had exited well in front of me, screaming at me to get away from the plane which I ultimately did. There was an Aussie guy in row 12 who has good footage of the device burning which I viewed and was a decent fire and said he poured water on it. There was a couple of injuries from the slide exit. We are apparently picking up a diverted flight from Bristol soon. I’ll try and upload a couple of short grabs after the fact.

Glad you're safe. Be interested to hear what you thought of the process once things have calmed down.

I reckon you'd be one of the few AFFers who've ever been through a real evacuation.

Finally, did you listen to the instructions and were they helpful?

Thanks for your interest. We are doors closed now on a flight that was ex Liverpool. We notice some gaps as the original flight was almost full. Ryanair have actually been quite good although we went to the Priority Pass lounge again, which was excellent. To answer your question, I remember no instructions because we were desperate to get out and just surviving I think. I suppose that we just remember subconsciously the instructions we have all heard, although some people were taking carry-on. I still have adrenaline pumping, it helps to describe my experience and also take this next flight. I’ll try and post a few grabs but file size seems to be an issue. Maybe a moderator can help. Shows pax in the vicinity of plane and slides down. I said to guy in row 12 with the real footage to make the morning news but he was disinterested in being ‘interviewed’. Footage may see the light of day on social media.

Glad you got off safely.
As you mentioned you can see on the short video clip that some people were carrying hand baggage with them. I recall from safety briefing that this is a no-no when evacuating.

Very definitely a no-no. Yet in virtually all evacuations we've seen recently, some pax take their bloody carry-on.

To the OP: How did the carry-on left behind get retrieved? Brought out by crew and then reclaimed by pax in the terminal?

That’s me in pink pants, black shirt while guy videos.

Ryanair brought in a replacement plane from Liverpool. As we reboarded, we were asked if we had carry on and then shown down the air bridge side stairs to identify our belongings which had been placed on baggage trolleys. That was a little haphazard and there was some leftovers which they paraded through the cabin before takeoff. Some pax did not have boarding passes on reboarding and were allowed to board anyways.

Well done jjonnboy.Great to see you helping to clear the congestion at the bottom of the slide.

Glad everyone is safe and the video was a good watch (knowing everyone is OK).

Generally seeing some backpacks and handbags so maybe these are the bags people had at their feet on evac so Im not too fussed about people taking them down the slide, they might have picked them up without even realizing it.

I will admit it was really scary when it first unfolded. I genuinely thought there was a threat coming from the rear as the cabin filled with acrid smoke and some passengers shrieking. Maybe some peoples reaction is to grab their "important" stuff. Mine and my wife's (ex Qantas crew) \was to get the hell out.

Great move getting over the side of the slide to help out!

I'm sure you will find plenty in Ibiza to take your mind off it......ENJOY, you've earned it!

It was a case of get out of there, so instinctively jump off the side, but those ladies weren't moving, so I and a ground staff hauled them off when the video panned away. I didn't know what we were dealing with at the time and you can hear my wife calling to me in the video. We're now on Formentera, so yes worth it in the end!

So, was this evacuation actually ordered, or was it a bit of mob rule. Apparently the wayward charger was put out by one of the passengers, using water.

We were still at the gate but the aerobridge had pulled back, We heard commotion and screaming behind us. We knew it was some sort of fire because you could smell phosphorus and the smoke was filling the cabin. The crew were very quick in deploying the slides and the evacuation was reasonably orderly. There was a fellow aussie in row 12 who took footage of the fire. He said to me that the device "shot" across his row on the floor and he then poured water on it.

Front and rear slides were deployed,

Looking at the images, it seems that only the port forward and aft exits were used.

But was an evacuation actually ordered, i.e. "evacuate, evacuate, evacuate"?

It may have been but I don't recall hearing it. The flight was slightly delayed and we were settling in for pushback then all hell broke loose. Then there was a scramble for the front as people behind us came surging down the aisle.
