Don't think there's a thread for this yet but perhaps we can start a list of the best/interesting events to the world. So far I have

• Oktober Fest in Munich, Germany
• Watching the chimney in Rome when picking a new Pope
• Carnivale in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
• Correfoc (Fire Run) during the La Merce festival in Barcelona, Spain
• Holi festival (Festival of Colour?) in India
• Northern (Norway) or Southern lights (Tasmania, Australia) for photography (YMMV!)

Christmas markets across Europe during December (various cities, Strasbourg gets a good rap, we enjoyed Vienna, many others).
Thaipusam in Malaysia and Singapore - not for the faint hearted.
Boka night, or Bokeljska Noc, in Kotor, Montenegro with decorated boats and lots of music, which we stumbled across.

Went to the Edinburgh Tattoo a couple of weeks ago. Countries from all over the world were entertaining people from all over the world!

The Last Post on Remembrance Day in Ypres was literally tear-jerking.

Lobbing in Edinburgh in he middle of Edinburgh Fringe was quite entertaining, felt like such a dag getting last-minute Adam Hills tickets but when they're something like £20 it seemed silly to pass-up the opportunity.

But I haven't been to Floriade yet.

I don't think they let you in to that unless Nonna is taking you.

Midsummer in Sweden with a family at their summer house.
Edinburgh (during the) festival, mainly enjoying the fringe and the general party vibe
Australia day in Whistler Blackcomb
Salzburg on Mozart's birthday
Champs Elysee for the Tour de France finish

Ever heard of tiger?

Plus because summernats is on the northern side of Canberra, at almost exactly at the intersection between the road that takes you to Sydney and the road the takes you to Melbourne (and Adelaide, and even Perth if you're truly game), it's not too hard for people to find.
