Have I missed a trick here? Do I need to have placed an order for delivery to qualify for the 3000 bonus points?

No.

How long is it taking for the points to appear? When I check my account the last transaction showing is 12th June and says points may take 7 days to appear. Probably made 10 purchases since then and also signed up for the 3000 point bonus.

I find that the normal points i.e. a point for each dollar spent, show up as soon as the transaction is completed. I find that I often have to chase up bonus points esp fuel and BWS but they will not do that until the seventh business day.
