As most of us know, one of the joys of a frequent flyer program is to be able to preselect your seat before you even get to the airport.
So it is an odd feeling when you are sitting in your selected isle seat and a guy comes up and says he ordered an isle seat and my seat was his!

I didn't even check my boarding pass as I knew I was in the right seat 44D.
I looked at his pass and it was the seat next to me 44E. Long story short he complained and whinged the whole trip about getting the wrong seat.

At one stage I went to the bathroom and came back to find him moved into my seat!!!!!
I leaned down close to his ear and told him is very easy to understand english to get back to his seat or it would get very untidy
He moved and proceeded to try to take up as much space as he could in his seat. Also a bad move as I was bigger than him.
I slept well but I am not sure about him.
The cabin crew were great about it and as the flight was full he could not be moved anyway. But one of the crew did say to me quietly, even if there was a seat, he would be unlikely to be moved!!!

Frankly, I would have preferred an aisle seat. (or should this be in the grammar thread!)

Got to have some nerve to move into your seat when you went to the bathroom?
Still passengers like them generally make the flight unpleasant

My bolding. This guy who I assume is an overentitled NB may have requested an aisle seat which he has then taken to be an ironclad guarantee that he will get one. He chose not to pay a seat selection fee or do OLCI assuming that he would get what he wanted then was probably told at checkin there were no aisle seats left but despite that didn't take no for an answer and thought he could just bully or bluff his way to the seat he wanted even if it was at the expense of someone who was legitimately in that seat.

What sector was this? Sounds like it was either a red-eye transcon flight ex PER or one ex Asia.

It's hard to imagine the cheek of some people.
The word in his ear was a sensible move - apart from showing him you were quite prepared to invade his personal space (always a sure winner), you can use the language needed to get your message across very effectively without there being any witnesses who heard what you said. :p

Actually, I really prefer a true "isle" seat - and have one next week sitting in 5J on a QF747 BNE-LAX ;)

My preferred seat as well. Hope you don't get a non-refurbed bird as I did last time I flew a 747 - in fact twice in 3 weeks!

haha love hearing stories like this lol

Gosh, I dislike these types of confrontational situations that other people put you in. They really do mess up the whole joy of flying.

Just when I think I have seen/heard it all, some people manage to find a new low to descend to!

The interesting thing is that it didn't really upset me.
I have not mentioned the nationality of the person in question, but lets just say that he could have worked in a call center in India.
His whole attitude just made me more determined to enjoy my time on board, and whilst it was a Y seat (someone else paid, so I'm not complaining), I was quite happy with it.
I had just purchased a new set of Bose 35's (the new ones with bluetooth), and once they were plugged in the mumbling was harder to hear. The guy next to him copped most of the abuse, but he was a Papuan and did not speak much english.
The funniest part was when he wanted to get our after my quiet word in his ear, he climbed out the other side whenever they went aft to the loo.
The other good bit was after I eventually got past LAX customs, he was in an animated discussion with the passport control guy which is not something I would ever try to do!

It was QF16, the LAX-BNE service.

Yep agree .....these people are frequently met nowadays

Witnessed a classic one on the "red-eye" from DEL > BKK this morning; two young gents settle in the exit row, elderly couple came on an asked for their seats. Seems that one should a have been there but the other was a friend. its went something like this;

Elderly M; excuse me but you are in our seats
Young; we want to sit here just take ours
Elderly M; yes that would be nice but you are in row 50(-odd) and this is 30(-odd)
Young 1; does that make a different
Elderly M; I do understand the principle possession is 9 tenths of the law, as being a lawyer I often use it to good effect
Young 1 was up like a shot, and stormed down the aisle.
Young 2 sat firm in the middle seat
Elderly F; may I have my seat please
Young 2; I want to sit here, I prefer here.
Elderly F; I'm sure you would, although I've been assigned that seat you would realise that J comes before K in the alphabet!

The elderly couple did it with such aplomb and grace, (pitch perfect and no tenseness), it was wonderful to watch.

That's the one! We loved it as well.

Thought it looked familiar! We spent many an hour each night watching the mantas feeding in the shallow water under the bridge. We stayed on the smaller island in one of the overwater villas with a spa on the deck **sigh**.
