Expert Flyer QF Fare Search - how to use info

Apologies if this should be in the EF forum.

I am just learning how best to use EF fare rules to my advantage.

SYD LAX QF return in J search came up with a fare that I like ($1K less than the next one).

Small prints stated tickets must be issued before 13th March.

When I go to QF to see the pricing (2 minutes later), it is $7393 (instead of the $6545 seen on EF) for the same departure / return dates of course.

Is that because of tax/fuel surcharges ?

Or I have to know how to get that fare out of the system somehow.

Could you shed a light on this anomaly ?

Correct - EF does not show taxes. On the QF site you used to be able to see the base fare and double check you were booking the one you wanted. Then they "enhanced" the website and now it just shows the total.

Now back to the drawing board on how to get the most out of EF in terms of fare search etc....

At least there is no hidden low-fare ticket that I should be aware of

Just remember with EF, the fares that show up are based on a US date - i.e. it may take a full day for some of the ex-AU sales to appear in EF because of the time difference. You can try and manipulate this by changing the ticketing date, but it doesn't always work. Be alert to the fact that some fares just don't show up in EF at all. I can never see the AU-NZ biz fares (although I can see the NZ to AU ones??) and many of CX fares aren't published. I use a combination of EF and ITA to try and find the best fares/options.

But you can still click on the total on the QF website to get a bit of a breakdown. :?:

The other thing to be aware of is that the availability shown on EF searches is based on US inventory and may be different to what's available when booking here.

IE. There may be 4 'D' Class seats showing up in EF but when I search in my GDS here (based in Australia) it may well show up zero.

It's all to do with airlines controlling yields in different markets but its good to be aware of as you might think your friendly (or not so friendly) TA or online travel provider doesn't know what they're talking about when you can see availability via EF but they're telling you there's nothing available.

No I don't think so Medhead - they enhanced that away a while back. It now just shows you the total - you can't click on it for the breakdown anymore...
