However, rumour goes that this new SQ allowance is only for new bookings......

How would they enforce that?

I've got 2 sectors coming up on SQ that I booked months ago so hopefully today's limits will apply.

At check-in - Pretty simple and QF have done it before, VA have done it before

The website doesn't state any restrictions of ticking dates, but trying to argue/persuade SQ is pointless at the best of times

Singapore Airlines -- News Releases

seems you now get 10 kg more in each class as of Friday. I wonder if I should tell mrs UXB before the next trip

Mrs MEL-World is already planning how we might use 160kg as we are flying in J to Europe in January for 6 weeks. The PPS Solitaire companion membership is the very best benefit of being PPS Solitaire. It gets lot's of bonus points although we will need new luggage to take all the purchases on the way back.

How do you lug 160 kg of stuff around for 2 people? My wife and I just managed to lug 2 check in, 2 rollerboards and 2 backpacks foer our 3 weeks in europe.

It's not hard to enforce - put simply bookings before x date get the old allowance, anything after that date get the new allowance.

QF have done it several times within the last few years.

Given how often QF change their baggage policies, I say they've the experts in the field.

Virgin Australia Gold and Platinum are entitled to have extra weight when flying with SQ metal?

It is a good enhancement and seems to be the trend these days with some carriers.

Luggage + golf clubs = ~30kgs! :D

Yes having the allowance and using it are two different things.

Lugging 160kg is not smart traveling IMHO

I guess I should have mentioned in my earlier post that the wife and I are working at the Winter Olympics so going to one destination (Sochi) for 6 weeks. It will be easy to get to 30, even 40+ Kgs each with winter clothes, skis etc. but I would never travel to multiple destinations with such a heavy load.

It does help though if you are moving countries and have a few kids in tow.

I believe the new baggage rules are for all tickets on SQ stock (618), regardless of when purchased. So all Y Class pax will get 30kg allowance - even if purchased last year with a 20kg allowance.
