Hi guys, sorry if this sounds like a n00b question but I literally am very new to the whole frequent flyer thing. Only accidentally landed on silver after I learnt how to family pool just before a big honeymoon trip (and I probably will never be able to maintain said status, so woohoo...)

But anyway, we're travelling to NZ tomorrow. Being stingy, I bought a Economy Go fare, which does not come with any check-in baggage. The operator is Air NZ. But I recall reading that as a Silver member I can get 1 more piece of check-in baggage for free. Does this apply to Go fares? Air NZ flights too?

It would be nice to check a bag actually, because we're travelling for a wedding and hubby doesn't want his suit squashed and I would love to bring my big stilettos.

Thanks in advance guys! (And I hope this is in the right forum!)

The free bag for Silver on a Go fare appears to be limited to VA operated flights...

Do VA offer an add on checked allowance cheaper prior to check in???

Where did you see that about operator mattering? AFAIK on trans-tasman the only thing that matters wrt baggage allowance is the marketing carrier, not the metal you're on. VA's site shows 1 bag for silver and golds on Go fares. (operator always seems to give full rights if you're a member of their program, regardless of who markets the ticket) I can't speak personally for Silver as I've had WP whenever flying to NZ.

I wouldn't put it past NZ to try and screw people out of bags though, even *G get denied their "1 free bag" if the ticket doesn't include baggage already

Where? In the notes below the diagram on the link TheInsider provided at Post #2. You know... on Virgins own website?

"Additional baggage allowances for Velocity Silver, Gold and Platinum......only apply for flights operated by Virgin Australia." So looks like Virgin "screw" people too....

P.S.....Its not 1 free bag..its 1 EXTRA bag. NZ makes no secret of the fact that if there is no allowance then there is no extra....."Seat only" is a pretty clear description of the fare!
