Hi Guys,

Long time lurker, firstly thank you for all the information captured here.

I'm QF Platinum flyer with most of my flights coming from business flights not leisure.

First question - I'm considering flying to Melbourne from Sydney and have noted that one of the Jetstar flights leaves from the International Terminal... From the searches I've performed in this forum it seems that we can get into the F Lounge... now is this practice frowned upon by either the FF community or Qantas? Will I get black listed or something? I guess I don't want to abuse a good thing and ruin it for everyone... Also will there be restrictions to the conditions of access?

Second question - why is platinum status abbreviated to WP? gold to SG? and silver to something else, I can't remember what the abbreviation is for that one... something that always bugged me during my time of lurking here =)

thanks in advance

Thanks mate, rolf about the explanations...

As for jetstar... some of the tickets are 49 dollars... I'd just feel horribly bad walking in there... did you use the spa as well or just stuck to the meals?

Don't feel too bad about it, just enjoy.

Not sure if you have read this trip report; http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...ekend-2010-whole-lot-22909.html?daysprune=365

I wasn't Platinum when I did this trip but I am now.

Enjoyed only the meals in Sydney but the meals and Spa treatment in Melbourne as they were so quiet and looking for something to do.

Don't feel bad about it :) it's per the written rules for F Lounge access, so it's not like you're relying on the good will of the lounge staff or exploiting a loophole.

Once you're in the lounge, you're entitled to use any of the facilities (including the spa) -- that being said, I've had almost no luck at all in getting a spa treatment at SYD, as F pax take priority.

Also, welcome to AFF :)

Most of the JQ tix I buy to get onto the SYD-MEL or MEL-SYD services that depart from the international terminals so I can use the QF F lounge are a shade more expensive than that.

In saying that, don't feel guilty :) Just enjoy and get the most out of it (in fact, see if you can get enough value to repay your fare + transport to the airport ;) :p) - have a meal, drink champagne, relax in the comfy chairs, have a refreshing shower and - if you are lucky to get an appointment (they are on a tight schedule and QF F pax get first dibs) - enjoy a spa treatment.

You'd be surprised how many people actually fly the SYD-MEL or MEL-SYD segment from the international terminal. Of course, not all of them are WPs (either that or know about F lounge access), but that's good for us ;)

And don’t give up on the spa in SYD, it is possible to get in there even though you won’t be able to book a slot until you arrive. My wife has managed to get in there twice without a booking. Just go in and speak to them as soon as you arrive at the F lounge to give yourself more chance of success.

Agreed. I'm 2/2 at SYD.

Thanks for the replies guys...

Yeah multiple times I've rocked up for a massage and facial at the spa going to NZ so I won't give up on it... I'd just feel horribly bad when i hand over my boarding pass to the spa lady that's booking me in...

If it's acceptable to do it I'll walk in there with my head held high... :)

I was FLounging in MEL about 5 weeks ago prior to JQ MEL-ZQN. I rocked up nice and early in anticpation of a massage and was told that the Spa was now closed whenever there were no QF services offering First Class! Anyone else noticed this?

I made up for it with copiuos amounts of Cliquot.

Interesting. It wasn't the case in May when I did QF29 to HKG (no F). Not sure if it's changed officially...

No trouble in April when we rocked up for JQ3 to SYD.

We were the only ones in the lounge; the spa attendant even approached us in the restaurant offering a treatment.

Then again, I guess there were not many people flying to SIN or LHR on account of the Icelandic volcano.

Going one event back (December 2009), I was there for QF133 MEL-AKL and checked in at about 1400h. Managed to get an appointment (even managed to get enough time for a massage).

Do you need your passport for these dom flights? I seem to remember something about orange D stickers as well to prevent you buying duty free.

No, just your usual ID (e.g. Driver's License).

+ 1. It's not as if Jetstar is a completely independent airline, it is fully owned by the same owner - Qantas Ltd, and routes coordinated with Qantas.

The rules once upon a time allowed access irrespective of which airline used - and I visited when occasionally flying SQ and NZ. I had a slight twang of guilt the day I used it when flying NZ (it was a $200 retn fare to WLG), but that twang disappeared when I remembered that the day before I had just come off a $800 return domestic flight on QF - in other words, it's not as if you haven't actually earned it by doing the hard yards on QF...

Don't feel bad at all. It's a benefit you're entitled to as a WP - enjoy it! My gf and I took a Jetstar trip to Melbourne a while ago - $50odd for each airfare, and we definitely got more than $50 worth of value out of our 3 course lunch, champagne and spa treatments. ;)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Had a lovely facial in the Melbourne F lounge just two weeks ago whilst flying JQ3 to Sydney. It was wonderful. That combined with a fantastic champagne brunch, it was certainly worth getting to the airport 3 hours before the flight was leaving.

As long as it is an Australian driving licence. Foreign licences are no good as id for flights from the international terminal and passport is pretty much needed then

No we'll only frown if you don't post a trip report ;)

The question you should be asking is when is the quietest time to visit to maximize chances of using spa!

I agree 100%
It's not as if QF will go bankrupt overnight.
