F Lounge SYD MEL Jetstar

I have booked a JQ SYD-MEL leaving from the international terminal in a few weeks. I typically couldn't not be assed dealing with immigration & customs but SWMBO will enjoy the F Lounge so I decided to do it.

Can someone confirm a few things for me?

  1. There is no priority check-in for WP. We will have to take the regular check-in line?
  2. Will we be able to get an express card for immigration in MEL? If so, do I collect this from the check-in desk at SYD? Or is it handed out during the flight?
  3. Is SWMBO entitled to an express card too? She's NB but is on the same booking as me.
  4. I am hoping to send SWMBO off to the spa service so I can prop up the bar for a bit. However, our flight is at 3pm. Are they generally busy with F customers at this time of the day?
Any other recommendations you have for first time F lounge visitors would be great.

Thanks again to those who helped me attain WP status recently by making some small modifications to my flying habits. For me the biggest unpublished benefit of WP is the increased brownie point earn when travelling with my better half. :)

1. there is no priority check in even for WP's. You could try the F desk - it has worked for some in the past - stress that it is a DOM flight..
2. no express card - there is a D line and the first time i used it i was out in a few minutes. Can't use smartgate either.
3. see point 2
4. the 2 times i have been to the F lounge in SYD it has been busy as there is an LA flight that leaves not long beforehand.

Enjoy the lounge though! well worth it!!

Presumably you are on the JQ35 flight. I have taken this flight more than 10 times over the years (normally *Class and on Saturdays).

The other have covered your questions; but I'll add a bit more.

Unless in Starclass or CL you need to use the Regular Line. This is supposed to open 180 minutes before the scheduled flight time but often may be quite some minutes later. PAX start queuing maybe 30 minutes beforehand. I would arrive at the check-in counters and queue up 3¼ hours before the flight (e.g. 11:45am for the 3pm flight) and be prepared to wait 30 minutes.

No express cards; however your flouro Orange D sticker (on you BP as a domestic passenger) is as good as one. (SWMBO will get a D sticker as well.)

Get to the Lounge ASAP and ask about the Spa. You are unlikely to clash with LA801 (9:40am), QF11 (13:05), QF73(12:55) unless they are late (They do call boarding at least ½ hour before these times), but 1pm-2pm is generally a quiet time.

Your flight should commence boarding 40 minutes before scheduled departure, so you really only have until 2:20pm for Spa/Lunch/Bar Prop-up etc.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Much appreciated.

Lastly, if you have a spare moment, what champagne recommendations do you have? :)

Typically you've have Vevue Clicquot, Vevue A Devaux, Taittinger and sometimes they have a Bollinger. Up until recently they also had a Bollinger Rosé available occasionally, which was stunningly good.

Taittinger or Clicquot are my picks, the Bollinger is ho-hum (except the Rosé). Not tried the Devaux though!

*edit*
Found a photo of the menu I took late last year in the MEL lounge, it's usually similar to the SYD lounge although as mentioned, Rosé seems to be off the menu now):

And be sure to try the salt and pepper squid. Usually a very nice way to start the meal :)

I had a very nice waitress in the SYD F lounge last time I was there insist that I try the Devaux.... It was interesting but i do prefer the Taittinger or the Clicquot.
