F Seat Allocation

I am just interested to know when two people travelling together and are not seated together always want the better seat. So I have to give up my exit row or any favourite seat that I have gone to the trouble of researching and pre-allocating just so two people can sit together. No thanks.

I would always plump for the "'worse" seat if mrssimongr and had the option of being separated. The problem is bassinets - there are only 2 in F on QF and they happen to be potentially plum seats as they give the single pax most elbow room.

This is a delicate one I reckon. Personally I would give up 4AK for a pax with kids - even if I had to have a non-window seat. There are benefits of status and then there is just being an a$$hole.

@NYCguy - I assume 2A isn't a bassinet seat?

If you had pre-selected 4AK and someone booked a bassinet, then you would be evicted from your pre-selected seat at the time the bassinet was booked. pre-allocations are never guaranteed and 4AK are the 2 seats with the biggest risk of being usurped regardless of status

I do not pre-allocate bassinet seats and I would vacate it if someone had the need for it. My concern is more with exit rows and favourite outer aisle bulkhead seats where the couple want to sit together so I have to give up my seat and sit in their assigned 62E seat. No thanks.

I have a flight this afternoon on BA010 and I have pre-allocated, and now checked in online as well, 11J in World Traveller Plus. I know that 11K as well as 12A and 12F are bassinet seats but does that make 11J a bassinet seat as well? No according to the airline and I was never told that I had to vacate this seat if someone was allocated the bassinet. From the looks of the seat map there are only 2 free seats in WT+, 11K and 15B, so if a couple with a baby get an upgrade would I be expected to move? The right to do would be to move but 15B is not a great seat with the toilets behind the seat. Anyway hope it does not get to that stage....

JohnK,

This where you hope if they did ask you to move the only place your moving is farward :) happened a couple of times on BA where i have been in bassinet row and somebody has got on plane with baby, not sitting there and they have asked me once before take off and once just after if i would like a seat further forward... Y -> Y+ in one case and Y+ -> J in the other.

I am not holding my breath as there was availability in all classes a couple of days ago. I would be very disappointed though if I was asked to move to a worse seat than the one I had pre-allocated over 3 months ago.

Regardless, if someone did book the bassinet and was travelling with someone and seating decided to move you to another seat, they are quite entitled to do so. It is a risk of booking such seats, but at such a close point before departure , it is unlikely to occur

JohnK, given the following availability:
  • F2 A2 J3 C3 D2 I2 W1 T0 Y1 B1 H1 K1 M1 L1 V1 S1 N1 Q1 O1 G1
... I don't think there will be (m)any spare seats on the flight!

Looks like BA have had some last minute sales or changes to existing bookings.

A couple of scotches and a couple of good movies would go down well. I hope "I Am Legend" is scheduled for programming this month.

Keeping this on topic; there's a very remote chance you'll get that elusive double upgrade to F. :p If so, would you take any seat or make a specific request?

It's now showing:
  • F2 A2 J3 C3 D2 I2 W1 T0 Y3 B3 H3 K3 M3 L3 V3 S3 N3 Q3 G2 X2
Enjoy the Flounge, it may make up for missing out on I am Legend.

I would take any seat in F anyday and keep quiet. ;)

Oh well. Judging by the choice in movies it looks like being a rough flight.
