I am flying in J on the A380: QF127 SYD-HKG.

Using T-80 I’ve been able to select ‘first class’ seats as F isn’t being sold on this flight.

I know the service elements will be the same as the J seats but does anyone know whether the bedding and mattress toppers will be provided as they would be in F?

Thank you for any insight.

Having flown the route recently in the F seats in both directions, I can say that the bedding you get will be J, not F

Just got back recently after this flight. Spot on about the linen and bedding being the J ones.

Still a very comfortable flight though. Interestingly the flight attendants made a point of explaining upfront specifically that even though we had awesome seats that the service would still be business level - just in case we’d been unclear!

Also flew recently QF128. F Cabin was not even half full so had the chance to grab an extra mattress topper and blanket (both J quality). Food and drink the same but the service was what I would expect from F. Maybe we got lucky but the FAs and cabin manager were superb!

As a daytime flight, I'd put the bedding and whether or not it was First or Business class standard at the bottom of my priorities tbh!

My main concern would be whether the A380 I am scheduled on is a refurbished one or not.

Admittedly, for first class there isn't much of a difference between the old and new (as they're essentially the same), but business class is where the main difference is (ie. 2-2-2 old layout vs the refurbished 1-2-1 layout).

There's still 1 unrefurbished QF A380 still flying around with the old layout if I can recall correctly - VH-OQL - the one that's currently enroute to HKG now as I type this?

Also on another note - why isn't QF "selling" first class as an option on this route as it's being run by an A380? Is it because the A380 is only being subbed in as a temporary measure, ie. it's not a "permanent" aircraft scheduled for SYD <> HKG?

It is only temporary (it will go away soon (Monday 11 March seems to be the last A380 for the season departing SYD for HKG), and it also doesn't run every day. Some days are still the A330.

Makes sense then (I thought that the A380 subbed in was only a temporary measure as well).

I guess for some switched on passengers, they're very lucky to get a first class seat on QF instead of business (the gap is even bigger if on the unrefurbished A380!).

Yes! I even got up at 2am just to choose them at T-80. Worth it though :-)
