Qantas should really step up their game here. "report to Scamwatch" isn't exactly helpful when people are actively being scammed. disappointing response from them.
taking down a number requires working with AMCA - a Gov Agency. From my experience, working with any Gov Agency is not the most "efficient" process.

I think it’s clear here: the airline needs to provide their format in an ITU compatible format meaning they put a +, the country code and phone number. People are travelling around the world and may not realize their phone is incorrectly dialling a number. At the same time, I wonder too if one could simply do a charge back with their credit card after the fact for it being a misrepresentation of who they are and not providing services requested. Additionally would frequent like international dial assist found on smartphones help in such a circumstance? I mean a smartphone should be smart enough to realize “hey I’m in the U.S.” and so the local dialling rules for the U.S. apply here.

In any event: here’s one useful tip that could save your life some day. The number for emergencies isn’t 000 or 911. It’s actually 112 which is defined by the GSM Association and the International Telephone Union as being the emergency number globally when on a mobile phone. This makes it tremendously easy to remember since it’s a single number virtually anywhere you are in the world!

The word they use are generally not misrepresentation. They say something like "I can help you with your Qantas booking". Not "I am William from Qantas and can help you with booking". Do not say "yes/no" if asked "is this Qantas" What people think they hear/mean and the actual words are different. And often do provide a service for a $$ fee, where the airline would not charge.

In New Zealand emergency number is 111
