Family kicked off Jetstar flight

where's the popcorn? waiting to hear how the family tried to seat 2 kids in 1 seat / carry all their check-in sized baggage on board / managed to board the wrong flight etc etc etc :)

I think I read somewhere in the multitude of angry comments that it was some kind of seating dispute, and the Father spoke to the FA in an unnecessary manner.

And there we have it.

Ah, but to add some confusion, family was originally not sitting together (whether the children were separated from their parents, I am unsure).
So some are saying that they requested to swap seats with another passenger (who agreed), but then the FA's told them to retake their original seats.

If this was the case, then its petty on the FA's part.

As usual, we won't know the full story I'm afraid.

Possibly but first rule is always to obey FA instructions.
By the rule book I think you are required to be in allocated seats for takeoff but can then move, some crews/airlines are more liberal in interpretation

OK looks like JQ has really dropped the ball on this one

[FONT=&quot] I was on that flight and the flight attendant over reacted they didn't refuse to sit like Jetstar say they just questioned why the seats were the way they were and they couldn't sit alongside their family, the young flight attendant over reacted no one was rude to her they merely discussed this between each other and I heard them say it's not the attendants fault no one was blaming her, Jetstar didn't even let the 2 families explain the story, the families were shocked the attendant was upset... to kick two families off with young children was disgusting and completely unnecessary they were no why abusive or rude, Jetstar should be ashamed of themselves for doing such a thing to families with young children it was completely out of line... if the air hostess can't handle being questioned then she's in the wrong industry she ruined everyone's flight delaying us all for no reason... my son actually cried he wanted to sleep but said he was scared the lady ( flight attendant) might tell him off!!! Your captain is irresponsible and lacked due care and showed complete ignorance was the description on the FB link.

I know many airline captains and whilst they are many things I don't know of any that are irresponsible, lacking in care and who are ignorant.

Is that petty or the FA doing her job? Isn't it always a case of allocated seats for take off and landing, but free for all in between?

On our two flights this week it was very clearly announced how important it was to return to your allocated seats.

No. Wife was allowed to sit next to me on JQi flight berore take off after allocating 2 aisles and stay there for landing. Also once someone swaps it'd be difficult to return to original seats especially if a complex swap. FA's need to be flexible and assess each situation on its merits.

I'd happily sit away from wife and daughter on flights but can understand how some families would like to sit together.

Some FA's are in the wrong job and this may well be one of them.

I disagree on your last statement. I can be fairly certain that on the majority of flights I have been on there has been reference to taking your allocated seat for take off and landing. I understand that it doesn't always happen this way, but it doesn't negate my comment in any way.

As for the family wanting to sit together, why not organise it at the time of booking?

Realistically, the captain would have very little to do with it. If the CSM/Purser/FM comes up and says "we have a disruptive customer, they're not taking their seat, I want them off" in 99/100 cases the captain will just say "ok get them off". My airline specifically prohibits any of the flight crew from getting involved in such disputes and all we can do is act on what the purser says. I have experienced at least one occasion where I authorised the cabin crew to place a passenger in restraints and subsequent investigations revealed that the purser had simply overreacted to a very manageable situation.

Not saying the passenger or cabin crew are in the wrong in this case, but with this particular carrier both are almost equally possible.

We are in agreement then.

All I was saying was that the comments re the captain were over the top IMHO.

Re your last line, I believe no further comments are needed or warranted. (i.e. I agree)
