Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Although we had MT and Barnaby plus the QLD Cabinet in Rocky at the end of the last week I ran into a much more famous person on the QF flight ROK-BNE on Friday night-our very own amaroo.

Significantly larger security presence than usual this morning at breakfast in SYD.

No idea who was there, but several guys in suits at every entry / exit point with earwigs. And some other guys roaming in plain clothes.

No issue for my ingress or egress though. They just seemed to be standing there checking everyone out as the passed by.

PMs don't go anywhere near the domestic commercial terminals. In the rare event they do, they'd be in the CL as per other MPs.

ive seen security a few times in the lounges. Usually when there's someone 'controversial' or potentially so, such as a religious leader or a visiting academic, who wouldn't qualify for CL or private boarding (if that even exists for domestic flights - I don't know). Never seen it for a sporting team.

Maggie Beer in SYD Business Lounge on Thurs night - Mr's Rugby and I have seen her a couple of times and she seems like she'd be a nice nanna.

Peter Costello in the MEL F lounge a couple of weeks ago. Enroute to London (or at least DXB) in F. Was watching the footy on his phone a bit loudly until a staff member discretely put it on the telly for him. Otherwise very low key and appreciative of the staff.

Tim Horan (legend)- Thursday BNE J lounge

Wallabies - today BNE luggage collection... they were not jumping for joy!

Well, I don't seem to bump into too many famous people when flying.

But some that I do recall are:-

Blondie (Deborah Harry) coming towards me whilst walking to the gate at Brisbane Domestic many years ago. With extremely large African-American bodyguards each side of her. I smiled and she smiled and all those teenage dreams just evaporated away. The years had not been kind :(

Rose Hancock (then wife of Lang) on a SYD>PER 737 again some years ago in economy. She was a row in front of me and on the other side of the aisle. Pitied the guy that sat next to her but just glad it wasn't me.

Julie Bishop. In J on BNE>PER A330 a couple of years ago. She was the last on the aircraft with a PA/EA sitting the row behind. Whisked off as soon as the aerobridge was connected and doors opened in Perth.

Various PNG politicians on flights between Port Moresby and Cairns/Brisbane over the years as well.

That reminds me, I ran into Rose some years back, but not on a flight - in a vet's surgery! I had a young German Shepherd who had been diagnosed with possible hip problems (which thankfully turned out not to be the case) so took him to a vet in Applecross that someone had recommended. Thought the lady sitting next to me in the waiting room looked familiar, then we struck up a conversation and I realised it was Rose. She was there with two of her poodles (Denis and Lulu, I think) and we had quite a pleasant chat.

Had Jimmy Barnes and tribe walk towards and past me at Auckland airport in January, was smiling and happy, but shorter than i remember.

Had the infamous Akbar Al Baker on a Qatar Airways 777 flight recently... he was in the front row of business class (not 1A, though), and excused himself to the coughpit for takeoff and landing.

Seemed pretty approachable - said hi to anybody he encountered, and set up camp on a crew seat in the galley and had long chats with the crew.

When we landed, we pulled up at a remote gate and he was whisked away in a private car while the rest of business class jumped on the bus to the terminal, LOL!

Have the cast of the Today show staying in Winton at the moment. A singer in the motel room next to us serenaded us with Waltzing Matilda this afternoon (he did shut all doors & windows so as not to bother us!) while we chatted with another family and wrangled our kids, also watching brolgas and pigeons stop by.

Have seen Richard, Karl, and Lisa at various stages today. My kidlet played handball with Karl's kids. Karl sat in front of me at a movie, and without any suggestion or issue, spent the movie scooted down in his seat, providing me with a clear view. (Meanwhile a man behind my family moved twice due to our height -)

No sign of the one with the bandanna, dr.ron. ;)
