Farewell to Frequent Flying!

Have now retired from full time employment and my time in the skies has been dramatically curtailed. Self funded travel from now on! Stopped flying for work in March this year with only 600 QF Status Credits earned for my August cut off date. Today received Plat card valid till 2018. Thank you QF.
Will be using the Syd First Lounge for the final time this November outbound to Hawaii with Mrs Subharpoon.

I had retired 3 years before I discovered this Forum. Since then all of our long haul travel has been up the front. I have learnt so much and still learning.

Now that you have moved out of the fast lane it's the perfect time to browse for more tips.

All the flights shown on the AFF flight tracker under my avatar have been since I retired. My first business flight was in the 60's and the majority of my business flying was with Ansett and TAA. This was well before FF programme's were introduced.

I hope you stay here and let us know some of your retirement experiences. We need all the help we can get

A big benefit is that your travel dates can be very flexible and booked far in advance, which is not always possible when work travel may pop-up at short notice.

Example, I may be a heretic here in AFF as I'm not able to book the current DSC offer - since I don't know what country I will be living in next year!

The flexibility of travel dates is a big thing. The OP will be able to book far in advance and/or take advantage of short lasting sales. Being tied to my client and not able to plan holidays much in advance over the years has certainly cost me more.

Ditto no DSCs for me this time or the past 3 or 4 offers.

Retirement certainly changes the way you view travelling...... and makes it a true adventure again!

Retirement is every expensive. There is no reason (except the cost), not to go when and where your impulses demand. It's even worse when the partner enjoys her lounge time a lot.
