One of mine must have been our recent trip to NZ with the kidlets. Stayed at the Hermitage in Mt Cook. After a long drive, freezing weather, checked in spent time around the fire and went to bed. When we woke up in the morning the kids opened the curtains and it was snowing and had dumped a massive load over night - the look on their faces was priceless (first time they had seen snow). Another one was in Helsinki, we were trudging through the snow (about 10 years ago) and we heard a commotion so went to look and it was a uni party where all the students had created their own sleds (i.e. lounge chairs strapped to skis) and were racing down a hill, lots of music and food and drinking it was awesome! So we joined in the party and had an awesome time. Love exploring new places and finding new things.

I took the train from Zurich to Bellinzona last year and it was staggering, I've never seen anything like that scenery. Very steep wooded valleys with rivers and waterfalls, bridges.... very memorable.

Also on that trip I did a bit of driving in the Lake District in England, and again some of the roads were amazing, particularly the higher passes between the lakes. On a whim I climbed up Red Screes halfway along the Kirkstone Pass, and the view from the top was pretty cool. I had a few days around there and it was so exciting just waiting to see what the view around the next corner would be.

Great Wall of China 1986.
Back then there was only 2 choices of where you could walk along the wall. The main one was closed due to snow, so we took a taxi to Badaling, and told it was 1,000 icy marble steps to get up to the wall.
"Donkey Ride to top - 2 Yuan" I think this was the only English he spoke, but it was fantastic. Totally unprepared for, but it usually is the spontaneous things that you do on holidays that make the memories.

Will also add last year - watching the sun rise at Iona - Scotland. I love the hustle & bustle of New York, but Iona has such a calming serenity.
