Feedback on my *A RTW plan using KF points

No luck with GOT - though good thinking. I did some searching but decided to stick with HKT. I conveniently found a tour I'd earmarked that went from KRN to TSO, which solves the ARN double up issue as from TSO onwards there's no ARN leg. On the phone as I type. *fingers crossed*

Im not sure if this helps but did a similar trip over 4 months from the start of March to the end of June in 2018 from CBR also all in J!

Can confirm backtracking was allowed.

CBR-SIN-LHR,EDI-IST-JFK-BOG-LIM-SJO-CUN,LAX-HND-ICN-SYD.

backtracking from LHR-EDI, EDI-IST. ICN-SYD is technically backtracking too.

amazing value for money overall. Only thing SIA was concerned about was the total mileage i think it was just under the 35K limit

You may be able to do a wee bit of backtracking (one agent indicated that there is a maximum permitted mileage between two points) but if you ever step back to an airport previously visited, it is impossible to argue about the necessities of routing, it is clearly backtracking. Having said that, I think the no backtracking rule is a nonsense when you're looking at RTW as that would make some airports impossible to include.

Just thinking about this particular route, if there's no flight between Umeå and Gothenburg then there is a rail connection.

After some back and forth, it looks like it's good to go! I am waiting for final confirmation, but they have my details to pay the tax and all that. And they managed to find J seats to YVR, so everything is in J! For those playing at home pending final confirmation this will be it:

MEL-YVR
YVR-MEX
MEX-YYZ-LHR
A bunch of own travel including Berlin, Paris, maybe Amsterdam and a weekend in a Polish castle (this was the key thing I had to work around, find out more when I write my TR ;) )
CDG-OSL-ARN-KRN
TSO-FRA-HKT
HKT-BKK-MEL

I'm not sure if you're assigned the same call centre person but I somehow managed to speak to the same person every time I called over the past two days. The accent was slightly tricky so I heard their name as Merlin, and after their effort with helping me, I'm gonna stick with that because they're a wizard!

I am beyond excited, but also grateful and thankful that a forum like this exists with lovely people that share their experiences so kindly and freely. There is no way I could have saved enough points or book a huge trip like this on my own without having read about other's tips and tricks.

Nice! So are you flying MEL-YVR direct in AC J?

This is a really excellent use of 240,000 KrisFlyer miles.

Yep! And yes, technically 480,000 because it's for me and MrD. I did my best to get the most out of it :D

I’ve been reading up on the Krisflyer RTW award and my experiences with allowable routings for Krisflyer on general is that YMMV depending on which agent you get. I’ve been told by some agents confidently a routing is not allowed and then another agents sends me an itinerairy for it in a couple of minutes.

I’m not sure if we’re allowed to link to other forums but this person here had no issues with going through the same airport twice.

I got the same agent every time I called, which was lucky in that there was context and history for how the itinerary was shaping up based on availability, but perhaps not so great for a different opinion on going through the same airport twice, etc.
In the end, not a problem for me, but it could have been difficult if I wasn't as flexible.

I'd be curious to know what the fuel surcharges came to on this itinerary.

Uh, I'm not sure what's fuel surcharges and what's tax (or are they one and the same?) but what I had to pay came to about $1950 for the two tickets.
