Fewer Suites, but larger and plusher coming....

I am more than happy as a solo in the old suites. I don't seem to go the routes where the new suites are an option so have never seem them, but reports are mixed.
I certainly would not go out of my way to experience them.

Mrscove loved 1A on the new Suites. I was in 2A.
For me I liked the old Suites where I could ask for a second Suite to be made up as a bed because there were spares.

Opinions.... we all have them.

Always good to see continuous improvement.

Cabin ambience
Toilet / passenger ratio
Toilet facilites
Seperate seat / bed
etc

New suites are great they don’t worth burning 70% more miles on Advantage fare. Until they become available on Saver old suites / first class will do just fine.

Have only travelled each once. Prefer the new for the amount of space, unbelievable. Had 1A/2A. Main downfall no good option for dining together which was easy in the old suites.

Saver availability on limited routes - but therein lies the prob - occasional travellers who get to exp it once ot twice may be smitten by the 'grandeur' (and I use that term very loosely) but regular SQ R / F travellers having huge probs getting Saver availability on many routes - simple arithmatic - 12 in old V 6 in new - slaughters availability.

Absolutely ridiculous waste of space? Who needs a footprint of that size? As for dining together? Well it's lovely that you look straight across the aisle at a total stranger soi you can make a new friend - but if you want to share a bite of your meal or a sip of your wine with your travel companion then BYO shanghai cause unless you have 3mtr gadget arms you will be s**t out of luck.

1A and 1F your snout just about touches the TV screen at take off and landing - terrible seat positioning - you can always yell at your partner from 3 mtrs away if you want to have a convo v 1.2mtrs in old R - just loses so much of the appeal of travelling together when seated side by side - almost as bad as QF F.

The new 6 Suite layout is even harder for Crew to work - ZERO saving in Crew required - toilet space that EK also fit a shower in - again total waste of space - I come from a family of 13 so waiting a min or 2 to get to the coughper doesn't kill you - never have I had a wait longer than a min or 2 to get access to toilet in old R - new Suites just perfect for the self indulged - we all have opinions of course - but I am used to sharing to I like to see plenty availability so we can all get a turn.

I have done 100 rides in old R and 1/2 D in new - I would take old every day of the week - but of couirse you still get the SQ Crew which overcomes any shortcomings of the hard product - well almost 👍

CE thanks for your thoughts about Suites. Our next one is in March for a London holiday. It will be difficult for SQ to back track.

LOL, nobody needs a footprint of that size.
But I like it. 👍
Just an opinion, which is different to yours.
I would take New R every day of the week.
Would probably take old R over new J though.

Criticising the size of the new suites as too big because no one needs that much space is scraping the bottom of the barrel for faults IMO. It’s finding fault for the sake of it. No one “needs” the space that old suites provided either. But then it’s F/R - it’s supposed to be over the top luxury. A huge amount of space is the whole idea!

There are several negatives about new suites without having to resort to “it’s too big”.

Sure is - like halving the number of Suites on 380 from 12 to 6 to give you a 'luxury' feel is scraping below the bottom of the barrel - try getting Savers in new R and then tell me how important that 'over the top luxury feel' is?

Ability to get savers has nothing to do with the product itself. It’s the same regardless of whether you get a saver, an advantage award or pay cash. You get the same experience. Inability to get a saver doesn’t suddenly make the product worse, it is simply a frustration and a reality of only having 6 per plane.

If they had have doubled the footprint of the new R cabin with no change to saver availability would you still be complaining about them being too big?

SQ tried to create something that will eclipse EY Apartments as the best F in the air. I believe most people who flown both will agree they failed, new suites are not better than what EY already fly for years. At least the service is far more consistent on SQ but that’s regardless of the product.

Edit: Recently EK came with an even better suite that is said to be far superior than both EY and SQ.

IMO, if flying solo then New R > Old R.
If flying with companion then Old R > New R.

I prefer the Old R, but in saying that, I do value the new R toilets as the extra space gives you room to stretch change into PJs properly. But I do agree there is too much space in the toilets and it's uneccesary.
