FFP's FOR GOVERNMENT STAFF

The only time I attempted to do the RIGHT THING and use FF points for govt travel a few years back, QF made it so difficult that I ended up having to travel BNE to CNS via the INTL terminals at 6am. The flight was fine but the fr*gging around at the terminals was a right pain for a supposedly domestic flight.

Needless to say I haven't tried to do the RIGHT THING since then.

Defence in Aus has negotiated fares with Qantas. FF points are not supposed to accrue but SCs do. Points for two flights I did in January did show up in my account but one was reversed in June and the other in July.

Prior to the current arrangements, points did accrue and were supposed to be only used for official travel. I guess that probably still applies for Virgin since Qantas as our TA is required to offer "Best Fare of the Day".

Hmmm. I wonder what would happen if I quote my AA number for my next official flight on QF metal.

ok, let me set the record straight....

I am an employee of the fed govt.

I work in parly in a certain office in canberra. We do get FFP's and SC's. However, should the department pay for your FF membership or QC membership, all points will go to the dept for internal use/payment of flights.

I joined QFF before commencing employment and have been accruing FFP's and SC's for just over 4 years now in two different min's offices - and thankyou taxpayers for enabling me to become a QFF Platinum member!

We are meant to use accrued points from Govt paid flights to pay for our own Govt travel, however none of us do it.

You are able to use accrued points to upgrade a class if the flight is over 2 hours long - although i generally travel business anyway so i have no need except internationally.

After you finish employment (ie you get the sack/retire/voted out of parliament) you get to keep the points. MP's and Sen's usually retain their Chairman's Lounge membership (and i know a few former and current staffers who have CL membership as well).

It differs between dept's (I know Dept Parl Services do not allow the accrual of FFP's) but most of them do allow it.

Anyway that is what happens federally. State wise i do not know.

Chooms,

Welcome to AFF. It's good to get information from someone who is living the topic being discussed. So thanks for your input.
