Fiji Airways coming to CBR

Qantas owns 46% of FJ so would expect they would prefer to use QF lounges than pay to use VA

^ Last I flew FJ was admittedly in the early 90’s … the crew & external paint was FJ, ’plane was a QF rental and the interior was still QF. :)

In those days they (Air Pacific) were practically a subsidiary of QF.

Then Fiji mandated 2/3 of the board be Fijian citizens, despite QF being entitled to 4 seats, so QF pulled all 4 seats. Now FJ complains when QF sends its own metal to NAN instead of just codesharing.

It's a bizarre relationship, probably not helped by the multiple coups.

The AP 747s were ex-SQ. They still had SQ decals in the loos!

But, yeah you’d expect them to offer at least QP for J PAX. But I was labouring the point that OW lounge access is a dogs breakfast with FJ (unfortunately).

I assume this will be around twice per week on a Boeing 737 MAX, timed to connect to/from LAX, SFO and YVR. i.e. a morning departure from Nadi and an afternoon flight back.
Yeah I have looked at the connection flights. It looks like it has got a good connection - good timing (about 2 to 3 hours at Nadi) but only on Friday to Vancouver from Canberra and vice versa.

If it suits, check open jaw prices. It can be cheaper to fly into YVR, SFO or LAX and out of another.

The AP 744s spent half of its life with AN. They were still in the AN J/Y config with the old non-AVOD PTVs in Y (despite the SQ bulkheads).

When I think about the timing of my AP flight on a 747 with the QF interior, I think it must have been before AN even had a 747. AN only had 747’s from 1994 according to Mr Google, and this was defo before that, in fact it wasn’t even a 744 given that I was still in high school and I started Uni in Feb 1989 …

To me it's looking like they're not allowing connections to YVR from CBR. Won't show up on the FJ website or in google flights, but will show up separately.

LAX and SFO both work.

Just having a look on the QF site vs FJ site, prices to LAX on QF for the week I chose at random was $500 cheaper than FJ, and QF offered a morning departure via SYD and an evening departure via BNE, whereas FJ only has the midday departure. The QF options are slightly quicker.
Of course, there is a Sale to the USA on currently.

Try again in a week's time.

It's still cheaper.

I did a search for departure 21 Jul, which is not included in the QF sale.

QF still significantly cheaper.

And just to be fair, because these dates are close to the FJ route launch, a date later in August:

I did select Value on FJ as that comes with a bag (as does QF obviously), but if you went for Lite it gets down to $1880 - still more than QF, and less value.

Yeah that's exactly what I was going to tell you that. Yeah I remember that AN returned 747s to SIngapore airline and then sent them to the Air Pacific.

From August, CBR-NAN-LAX is currently $889AUD Return in Y, 2-3h transit. Google Travel

Flew SYD-NAN-LAX return previously and it wasn't awful, except transit at NAN.
