With Fiji Air now joining the OneWorld alliance and having just gotten off a Fiji Air flight (whose service wasn't that bad might I add) I thought I'd take a look at their frequent flyer program, Tabua Club as it might provide an inexpensive way to earn OneWorld Sapphire and even OneWorld Emerald status. At first glance, it would seem that their status can be "bought" for $600 FJD/year, giving lounge access another other such benefits. There is also a Plus level above that gives you access to things like Upgrades. So on the surface seems somewhat accessible, and certainly I suspect some of us would be willing to pay $400 AUD/year to get the equivalent of OneWorld Sapphire status.

However, to my surprise, it seems like Fiji Airways is ditching their frequent flyer program come next year in favour of American Airlines AAdvantage program. There is plenty of discussion on the program including work the loyalty points system to earn Executive Platinum status, but obviously not as appealing as something like a paid program where you are just given the benefits. It will, however, be interesting to see how Fijians can earn loyalty points to earn those levels of AA status, as that would either require a ton of flying or spending or both.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this news with you as I haven't seen it discussed elsewhere. Here's the link from Fiji Airways describing the exciting "enhancement" to their program:
