Fiji airways seat selection - business class classic reward booked via qantas

Hi all

Recently booked flights to the US on Fiji Airways - business class classic rewards booked on the Qantas website.
Tried to select our seats on the Fiji Airways website and it says we can't modify our booking online and need to call.
I called up today and the agent tried to choose our seats. He said he isn't able to select seats for us, the system won't let him. He didn't have a valid explanation, said the flight is too far away, maybe the aircraft will change, told me to choose seats at the airport, none of these options make sense.
I can see that others have selected seats online when i manage my booking, so its certainly possible.

Has anyone got any tips or insights as to how to select our seats? Or is it a matter of calling again and hoping for a different agent who might actually help.

I previously managed to do seat selection on my FJ flights to YVR booked through QF, but I can't actually remember how!

Assuming you have tried through QF MMB, my next option would be to try other OneWorld airlines MMB pages. RJ is usually pretty useful.

It is the same PNR as Qantas - they both use Amadeus.

As per my initial post, i tried through Fiji airways and it didn't work. All good though, got it sorted through Royal Jordanian website which is ridiculous but whatever works I guess

Strange ... I rechecked before posting and it worked fine for me.

Even seats on rj.com were all showing as blocked for my booking on QF code so I may have to call FJ

This is a nuisance and seems to be similar between award flights on QF or VA with various airlines. I really do wish they could get this all aligned in order to avoid the hit n miss. For many people while spending their hard earned points etc, not being able to choose a seat is quite problematic.

I flew FJ on QF award booking YVR-NAN few months back and had no issue selecting seats with MMB on FJ site.

Went back in a second time some time after making the booking and paid for exit rows. All worked fine.

All very mysterious. The person I spoke to at FJ customer service didn't seem to be aware of any issues, just gave a bunch of excuses to get me off the call. I'm glad I managed to get my seats booked, but not a great experience considering I needed to go through the "back door" and choose them via RJ.
