Hi, I am heading to Fiji with my 71yo mother and 6yo niece and based on recommendations on this website, am going to stay at the Hilton. In reading reviews on the hotel, comments are often made as to how expensive the food is. If i book an advance purchase rate, it costs approx AUD$100 more per day to have dinner included (breakfast is already included). So my question to those who have stayed at the Hilton, would you recommend booking the inclusive dinner option, or just paying as you eat?

Thanks...

When I go to Fiji I stay on Denariu Island and I go to the port for dinner every night.

The hotel food is very expensive but the port is a bit more reasonable.

If it is $100 more per person I would go to the port but if it is $100 more per night for the room it would be a toss a coin decision for me.

Also is it $100FJD or $100AUD

It is $100aud extra per night...so given kids eat free, it is costing approx $50 per person for dinner.

IMHO not great value,

I would rather have the choice of where I want to go every night.

I enjoyed going down to the golf club for dinner a few nights when I was in Fiji.

Recently purchased at Port Denarau for FJD 70.00 (AUD 38.00 but many other dishes were less expensive!):

I'd be interested in the prices too. When I go to a resort we do not leave frequently, apart from day trips to dive sites. Otherwise we have 2-3 meals a day on property, so it would be nice to know how many restaurants there are and their approximate prices. In Niseko the dinner package at the Hilton is amazing value, but I don't think the Conrad is worth it in Bali...

We stayed there 3 weeks ago. Some rough prices from the top of my head in FJD:

Beers $10 | coughtails $25 | Burgers/Fish and Chips etc $30 | Bottle of wine $50-60 upwards | Entrees $25-30 | Mains $30-65 (depending on restaurant - there are two).

The great thing is that there are convenience stores within where you can stock your apartments with food and drink, and the Bula Bus ($7pp all day) can take you to the marina/golf club/other resorts where food and drink is very reasonable.

The kids do eat for free and get two courses and a drink.

If you are interested is spa treatments/massages I think they were $190 per hour, but again there are cheaper alternatives.

Fiji dollars or Australian dollars?

We enjoy the golf club for lunch too. The Westin has a japanese restaurant, and the port had some fairly good restaurant choices.

Thanks very much for the prices. Looks reasonable enough. Is there a buffet dinner available too? If other resorts are nearby may also head down to the westin etc.

IMHO i would rather not buy the meal pack as then if(when) you get bored with the dinner selection you can go somewhere else.

That's the main reason why I don't stay at the coral coast when in Fiji because of the above reason.

Straitman knows a bit about this property. Perhaps PM him.

Also have a look at this thread - http://www.australianfrequentflyer....um-club/how-do-hilton-treat-you-18502-63.html - and search "Fiji" within it. The GM of the property is a member of AFF. If you PM him he might even send you a copy of the menu.
I'd be interested in seeing one.
Mollycram and I had a chat on the phone today about this.

I agree that going to the port is the best move and that maybe one night or two nights dinner at the Hilton would be enough. There is also Managers drinks and snacks on wednesday nights.

I'll check it all out again in the next couple of weeks and report back if anything has changed.

Cheers everyone, appreciate all the advice. Based on what everyone has said, won't take the all inclusive rate.

I think you're choosing the right thing. If I recall correctly mains were ~AUD$40 at the hotel's two main restaurants and not the bargain I'd been hoping for but still much less than $100. I don't know if the latter would include drinks but it would be hard to make it worthwhile in any event. We couldn't bring ourselves to eat in the same place every day and one night went for a short walk to the next resort over to try their restaurant.
