Makes it interesting for my transit ! 2 days pcr for Fiji and 1day rat for aus, looks like it will be a 24 hr pcr for transit thru fiji back to aus then

The change allows for either a 3 day PCR or a 24 hour RAT, you don't need both and can pick either one.

Regarding the RAT, "the test must be undertaken by or under the supervision of a medical practitioner (e.g., pharmacist, general practitioner, nurse, pathologist, pathology collector or trained personnel at airport-based testing stations)."

I think there was some confusion yesterday about it being only done by a GP so the above is good news.

Thats good thanks!

Following these changes with interest, currently in Fiji with the family, would prefer to only have to do a RAT in the morning before our evening return flight, though I guess there is the risk if you have a positive result that your 7 days isolation starts then rather than 4 days earlier with a PCR, but we did travel knowing the risks and accepting the chance of an extended visit, at least the government reduction to 7 days is a positive too.

I’d estimate our resort is at 20-30% capacity, staff adhering to masks etc predominantly, guests about 50/50

Can you get some personal RATs and run a trial yourselves? That would still be a lot cheaper. We can get RATs here for $FJ15 ea and the official RATs with paperwork for $FJ50. The PCRs are $FJ150 if we go to them or $FJ250 if they come to us. That's a huge price gap. For three of us that's $FJ500-600 difference.

Thats a good idea, we should be able to pick some up in Sigatoka.

It may have changed now but when we were there early January they wouldn’t let you into the terminal without your test results and I didn’t see any testing facilities in it around the terminal

Ok thanks. I thought this may be the case. I was flying Kadavu-Nadi-Sydney on the same day but guess it’s an overnight in Nadi to get a RAT.

I know things could be worse…

Can't you get a RAT in Kadavu? A negative RAT result within 24 hours of scheduled departure time from Nadi certified by a hospital or nurse would be enough to get on the flight to Sydney. Other option is a negative PCR certified by hospital or nurse etc taken within 96 hours of departure from Nadi would also be enough

The diving “resort” we’re going to is pretty basic and though they may have RATS I don’t believe there would be any medical supervision available. I would only have 2-3 hours in Nadi to try and get a test on Sunda.

Unless things change I‘ll overnight in Nadi to ensure a RAT.

By way of background this trip was planned when it was almost certain that Fiji was about to open and we wanted to get cheap fares. I guess I should have consulted my old mate Harry Hindsight.

So it’s definitely well worth picking up some RATs for self testing, no 2 child came down with funny throat, not sore, light cough on Wednesday, started getting nervous, progressed to full blown headache, fever, chills on Thursday, we had booked our pre departure RATs for Friday morning as we fly out this afternoon, I was envisioning and extended stay, but the self administered RAT came back negative, was still very nervous this morning when we went for our certified tests, but all good, Mrs Mort was so relieved I think she did a jig 😅 no 2 child still a bit tired, but symptoms cleared by lunch today, I am guessing it could have been heat exhaustion. Return RATs cost fjd$ 50 each, better than the 150 each for pcr.
