FINALLY! - Citi launching Citi Prestige with Visa Infinite

Thanks for this one! Had no idea that this was available in Aussie. Funny how it's offered here though, as I don't think Visa Infinite is offered in Aus.

Yes, this will be the first Visa Infinite card in Australia, AFAIK.

Where is the information on what this card provides? Or is this all guess-work?

Citi must have provided some information to those who are being upgraded, haven't they?

It's all guess work.

Although a number of Select card holders were invited to complete a survey on revamping the Select just over a year ago.

I didn't get the survey but apparently many of the various options put forward were a lower earn rate for most expenditure with an AMEX style higher earn rate for certain expenditures.

The new card is a Visa Infinite (not Visa Signature) card which means you can get a complimentary Hilton HHonors Gold status for a year.

My RM told me that the new card will bring the complimentary 1-night hotel stay back with 96 hotels?! (not too sure if there will be some restrictions because Citi Prestige in Singapore require a minimum booking of 4 nights before you can use the complimentary night).

He also said that there will be new benefits such as some Golf club, new rewards redemption / transfer partners.

The new card will launch in Australia in early November and current Citi Select customer will get their replacement cards in December.

You already get 1:0.625 via SPG now on fee free Signature. Would need better than that to entice me.

Since when can the Signature (or any AU Citi card) transfer to SPG? I think you're thinking of Amex MR?

1:1 transfer to AA would be good too!

If that becomes real, then Citi will send AMEX to grave, especially those high spenders who are holding Platinum charge, Centurion etc. and even Qantas cards will suffer as well, AA FFP is unbeatable to QF & VA.

Indeed, as I posted above. Although My HH gold status (obtained I must admit rather dubiously using the Luhn algorithm) has now stuck for over two years.

I got to do the survey. In nearly ALL options I ticked the box that said I would rather things stay as they were, as most proposed changes downgraded the earning capacity of the card except for a few niche things. I hope I am wrong but I suspect the card is going to be slightly less useful than it was.

I hope they let us know before the switch over should transfer rates be enhanced away so we can transfer our current points away.

You have been around AFF too long. No doubt AA is a better value program than QF and VA but most people wouldn't know that and would stick to path of least resistance (QF/VA or Amex MR).... besides don't underestimate Amex MR...

AMEX MR was not bad before it changed its earning scheme, if Citi includes either SPG or AA transfer in their new program, then I don't see any competitive advantage on AMEX MR.

If you prefer travelling oneworld, AA gives one of the best redemption.

If you prefer travelling *alliance, then Singapore Krisflyer can do as well, and I believe most of people here would stick to SQ.

Citi program at the moment can be used on SQ, VA and CX, if it covers SPG or AA, then it pretty much gives the same range as AMEX MR, plus it has much wider acceptation than AMEX.

Can't see them ever adding AA as they have no real presence in AU.... best we could hope for is SPG (at 1:1 preferably) which would actually be better than AA 1:1 :) If SPG 1:1 happened I'd be all over it (when I say 1:1 I'm talking 1$ = 1SPG point)...

Amex gives me 3PPD on most of my Amex spend which can be transferred at 1:1 to SQ, MH and CX (plus a few others) work. I'd say 80% of the places I spend at take Amex... so don't write off Amex MR...

because of the 5K bonus when transferring in 20K batches?

and slightly OT - what else besides groceries earns 3PPD? i ditched my AMEX cards years ago - wondering if i need to get back in the game.

You'd be surprised at how much spend you can funnel through supermarket :)

Plat edge gives 2PPD at petrol stations and DJ Amex will also give 3PPD but DJ MR points aren't real MR points... only good for transfer to SPG at 1:0.5

If Aldi took Amex 80% of my spending would be on Platinum Edge.
