Finally! Fares are truly coming down! (SQ early birds, incl business to FRA for $6679)

Although most media outlets are focussed on supply because it’s easier to write a story 😉 there was an interesting article quoting several airlines including Singapore, Qantas, AA and several TA’s - I think FC was there too plus others and quoted them saying demand / clicks / leads were anything from 4-8X pre-covid volumes. That is insane.

I’ll dig it up and post in a more relevant thread but clearly huge pent up demand still exists as well which is contributing to fares like these not being that exciting!

No doubt, and the government should be issuing a 12 month refund on all airport charges for any airline willing to fly here without limits, and putting pressure on syd/mel/bne airports to remove curfew for modern widebodies which make little noise.

I disagree with the noise. Our warehouse is about 3km away from SYD airport and on cold nights I can hear almost every engine spool up for take off when they go north to south. Granted there's no double glazed windows, but quiet is not what I'd describe being close to the airports.

Let us know if you find that article - I would be most interested to read.

It will be years before fares go back.

In our family preCovid we would buy X2 J SQ twice a year for trips Mel-somewhere in Europe during spring sale (and end of Jan).
7.6-8k considered good
Post Covid best I found 9.5 and worst was 14k

I’m not a frequent traveler, but looking to go to Italy next May in J. Is the current SQ early bird special about as good as it’s likely to get? Don’t mind travelling into ZRH or FRA. Any chance QAN does an early bird special?

understand there can be no certainty about fares at the moment.

SQ has extended its early bird sale until 4 October.

It may not be going as well as they'd hoped.

I just bought my flights yesterday, happy I waited because they now added the rest of the departure times from SYD to the sale, and so now I was able to get my dream flights and times from SYD -> FRA and then back BRU -> SYD.

Also yes, they have added the new Brussels route to the sale. Additionally, the prices came down by about ~$150.

Overall good news!

Open skies… that generally translates as “your open skies, not ours”, and is mostly pushed by places that don‘t have a home market that can be disrupted.

On a different note, I wonder how much things are being affected by the current nastiness in Ukraine, and the potential for that to spill over into something much wider. I can imagine a couple of scenarios, which may not be too far off, which would pretty much terminate most flights. Long swim home for some.

QF’s inability to get back to pre covid flying levels is simply another reflection upon the inability to actually plan anything other than attacks on staff (and eventually passengers) that was all the last CEO had to offer. I could have offered that for much less money.

I feel that they did this too early as usually Early Bird Sales cover all of September.

That said, I'm pretty sure SQ used to do and early sale, I think it was called something like "The Singapore Airlines Great Escape" and then 3 weeks or so do another sales for Early Birds which was more targeted at all of September, though the first sale always was a bit cheaper for the overlapping sale dates and the second sale encompassed dates further out.

Fingers crossed another sale happens.

It used to be in Sept and then following Jan but revenge travel threw BAU out the window 🤷‍♀️

We (4 pax) flew Oman in May this year from KUL to IST via MUC. The planes were super comfortable and the food good. Pjs and amenities pack very good! The meal service was disorganised although there were plenty of stewards. All four of received the incorrect meal - sometimes every course was not what we ordered. We stayed at the transit hotel (airside) for our 8 hour Muscat layover. No visa required. Lovely hotel. The lounge in Muscat is lovely with very good food and service. Let me know if you would like any more details. I would fly them again without hesitation.
