Finally! Qantas sale - companion for travel in premium classes.

All my International travel comes out of my pockets. I waited on the "merger" announcement last year and took 2 x J at $7k ea as a reasonable bargain for QF. So $7.5 is not that far away. MH were advertising yesterday at about $6.8k in SMH. But CX at $7k would win if I was buying today. Not sure I want to sit backwards in the middle of BA777 at $7k.

A single person can book 4 return flights a year and get normal "sale" airfares while a couple travelling once in a blue moon are rewarded with companion "sale" airfares much cheaper than normal "sale" airfares.

Then you get in the debate about business travel vs private, who is paying etc. The fact is the airline wants to fill a few premium seats, and a companion sale no doubt helps, and I would think this is directed very much at the private travel market.

It is no different to EDR and Flybuys sending out different offers to different people. My rewards offer pretty much suck while others get great offers. JohnK, your offers are always way better than mine.

A supermarket tries to entice a few people with cheaper weetbix this week.If all weetbix are not sold this week they can sell them next week.

Surely an airline would want to target 100% of their market with all sales. No? You can't sell an empty seat from today's flight tomorrow.

It's not a fair call at all. A blue moon happens about twice a year on average. So that couple is worth 4 return trips a year.

Yes it would hurt Qantas...and your logic is flawed if you think your approach would sell more tickets as a coughulative for Qantas..

The airline, and indeed any business sells more tickets by having a number of different specials in what they contain, how they are offered, when they are offered etc..

I might as well complain on how dare Qantas have a sale in December of Vouchers with 10 bonus QFF points. I could complain on how unfair it is that only people who can plan how many Qantas flights they will need to buy in well in advance can take advantage of it.

Double Status Points for Y redemption? No use to me as I only fly in J or Y internationally.

Or those cheap flights to Las Vegas. How dare they offer that as I want to fly to Europe..... etc etc

I doubt that there would be any offer that did not favour one group over another.

But that is the whole point for the marketers..they are looking for a reason to motivate consumers to buy, and buy now. The company wanting to manage it's cashflow will further skew things, and is the reason why there are always cheap deals in Dec and Jan.

Rather than worrying about the offers that do not suit you, seek to take advantage of the ones that do, and there are many, many different offers....

What you seem to be mad about is that QF never have "single seat" sales where you get a bargain but can only book one pax!

The lounges in BNE are the same and now we have access to *A First lounge in LAX. If you need a J seat to LAX and have no one else to go with, then grab a VA seat.

You certainly do have blinkers on to all but your scenario.

No, I did not say anywhere that Qantas should only offer real special airfares to couples. Indeed if you re-read my post you will discover that I actually said the opposite.

That is that they will offer "real special airfares" to all manner of market segments. One of which is couples....and yes this makes perfect sense to me.

All companies do this, or at least the sensible ones.

I think I will do the same as I only need one J seat ex. BNE to LAX return. For the dates I'm travelling, I can get a VA ticket for $4783 rt including taxes and travel.com.au's booking fee.

I prefer the VA product, but the MEL/SYD F lounges make QF a compelling product
