Find JASA to USA please

I do hope you haven't purchased this ticket.

You have been charged the business class fare (i.e. amount of points) for the whole trip but only given PE for the main journey.

Totally unacceptable behaviour by Qantas in allowing this to be offered.

I totally agree.
This is one area where QF really needs to clean up it's act!
QF seems happy to charge pax J award point redemption rates, even if only a short domestic hop is completed in J, while the other much, much longer sector is in a lower class of travel (PE or Y).

Now that we have started to see Priority Boarding getting ironed out, this might be the next target for AFF members to jump on?

Found Classic Award PE/J LAX/BNE/CNS for 192K plus $640 for both of us, then could go into upgrade lottery for J on long haul, we are thinking about it.
I would be interested to know how you will request an upgrade to business class on a classic award.

If you are happy to sit in PE for the main journey the price the ticket at a PE fare.

If you know that PE is available for this journey LAX/BNE then why not do the availability again but this time ask for PE so at least you are only charged the PE points. I'm assuming that it would then book you into whY on the BNE/CNS sector.

Personally, if it was me I would forget about the points upgrade lottery & set the flight alerts on E/F so I'd get an email the minute U seats became available LAX/SYD,BNE,MEL then book the JASA.

As a backup plan though I'd explore other options to get home eg a CX award ticket or FJ paid J fare LAX/NAN or HNL/NAN.

No didn't book it, realise its a PE at J price.

and, still exploring options return LAX/OZ flight for 2.

Yeah I forgot classic is not upgradable.

Just planning for 2013 so decided to look at JASAs to DFW 12 months out.
So for those of you planning to go to LOTFAP next Christmas there are 2 JASAs available-192000 points + $951.68 for the 2 on 15/12.

I totally agree. The way QF combines a domestic J sector with a longhaul Y sector and calls the fare "business" and charges full classic business award points is bordering on the unconscionable.

It also makes the process of searching for J (and F) classic awards much less user friendly because when you look at the calendar in Step 2 the rows of business class availabilities you are seeing are often just indicating that QF can get you to the destination on a mixed itinerary with a domestic J sector. Personally I would rather know the days J is available on the longhaul sector. I will take it as a given that QF can usually find domestic J availability. This creates a real hassle as you only find out what's going on when you get to Step 4 meaning you waste time going back and forth through Steps 2-4 looking for a real J award.

Other airlines have search engines that give you the option of excluding mixed itineraries from the search results (e.g. Aeroplan award search engine) and I don't see why QF cannot easily implement this. The fact that they do not suggests either incompetence or an intention to mislead as to the availability of J awards.

In or case did not have anywhere enough points just 2 months ago to book 2 JASA OZ/LAX for 192K points each plus tax/fees for Aug/Sept at that time were still available. Booking a year ahead is too far out for us.

Currently we looking at CNS/BNE/LAX/HKG/CNS.

Can fly out of US to HKG either LAX, SFO or NYC. CX have the new J seats (on selected flights so far) that are getting excellent reviews.
