Hey, just wondering if anyone knows when the F checkin at MEL will reopen? The F lounge has been open for a few months now, but checking in for an AKL flight a couple weeks ago, I had to go to the J counter. Agent had no info as to when it might be open. Heading to LAX on Friday and it would be nice to use it again.

I'd have thought that WP's had access to F check-in regardless of their class of travel. Going by that logic, I'd expect the F check-in to be open, but nope ... QF fail again.

Not a biggie, but would have been a nicie :)

SYD F Checkin is still closed even though they *are* flying 1st!

Took my partner (QF WP) 45 mins to check bag this morning. Presumably everyone from QC and up was at the J check in counters?

Thanks for the heads up, flying on Friday and was expecting it to be open. What time were you there?

Dropped off at curb at 07:50am for QF81 (dep 11:10). As I mentioned in another thread 2hrs 20min to F Lounge was a PB (PW?) not to be repeated!

Exactly the timing I am thinking to be there for QF145 😱
Staying slightly OT, but if you have a J BP you‘d get priority lane (Q jumper) for SYD Immigration/Security but it’s strictly enforced for F/J PAX only (not extended to status PAX in whY).

I’ve increased my upgrade bid for QF81 in late July in case there’s no joy with a points upgrade request!

Are the main issues with delays out of MEL restricted to QF. I was in MEL the other week and wanted to check a couple of things with EK and SQ and the wait times and queues did not seem that long. I will admit I got a bit lost/ confused locating the SQ check in area as it has moved at sometime over the past 2 years.

Hi all, does anyone know if the Melbourne T2 First Class Check-in Suite is open again as yet?

Somewhat unusually will be flying out of MEL versus SYD to LAX in a couple of weeks.

Thanks.

Also quizzed here

I would have thought that even with the A380's operating, the number of actual F pax would be a pretty small fraction of the total potential clientele, to the point whwre they would hardly by themselves justify a separate checkin area?

It's an advertised service offering to Platinum and above in addition to actual F seated pax.

I would estimate the value of these limited numbers of pax on any given flight is equivalent (or close to) the entire remaining pax manifest on said flight not to mention the ongoing continued loyalty by such offerings pre-flight.

It's unfortunate that at a time this offering would be of the most value (with airport chaos ongoing) it's not actually available.

But what Qantas F-class flights are currently operating out of MEL?

AFAIK there are either none or almost none. Platinum access has always been subject to facility being actually open.

Be thankful that the F-class lounge is open. Now that the J-class lounge is also open, they could probably close the F-class lounge too.

This offering of F suite check-in being open or not is not on its own going to turn me away from Qantas, however I don't believe I should be "thankful" for anything that Qantas offer us for our considerable custom.. it is in fact Qantas that should be thankful for us choosing to fly with them.

I'm certainly thankful that I'm in a privileged position to be availing and as such having a conversation around access or lack of a F suite check-in or even lounge offering!

I did edit my post from "Be thankful that the F-class lounge is open" to "The F-class lounge is open". But you quoted my original post before my edit, so I restored it back.

It's more that, AFAIK, there need not be an F-class lounge or separate check-in area at all in MEL just now.

Qantas have decided that some of the F-class services, where there is no actual F-class sold, are currently suspended.

Based on all this logic about class of flight departing MEL and lack of First check-in QF should edit this as an advertised benefit from their website for WP/P1 customers...

"For domestic flights, priority check-in is available at select airports. For international flights, check-in at any First counter regardless of your class of travel - or Business counter where no first counters are available"

Of course 'select airports' for DOM and 'where no First counters are available' for INT mean they can allude to providing this benefit but not actually do so!

Yes it's just QF speak, sort of. There's lots of situations where benefits are published but are not always possible to use.

Eg WPs and above get advertised arrival access to domestic Qantas lounges off Qantas flights.

But that doesn't mean they keep the Qantas lounges open for later arriving flights after an airport's last departing flight for the day has left.

So it becomes an "if there's one open" type of benefit.
