Re: "How to get a first-class start to domestic flights" - ie, JQ for QF F lounge acc

For my last trip to MEL in my current job I am doing exactly this now. I intend to be too full of champers to be concerned about the flight...

Dare I say this is actually a good thing for Qantas.... more Golds will be all like 'ohhh I want platinum now'... and never use the benefit.

But lately it does appear some media types are taking data from AFF and publishing it as 'insider secret's type info to the masses.

And it's pointless too for most readers which makes you wonder if The Age etc even bothered to proof it.

It's a favourite trick of savvy travellers, but anybody can play.

Anybody.. as long as you are WP! Hardly anybody.

David Flynn posts articles from time-to-time on The Age and has done for years I believe.

From memory he/AusBT were not well liked on here a few years back by the mod(s) and others, but now it seems all is well again.

Personally I would prefer somethings to be kept more quiet but then what is fair ? Just because someone has been here for years or has xx_xx number of posts they get access to more information ? It's a fine line between sharing and privacy on a deal/scam/promotion.

For whatever reason, he doesn't seem welcome around these parts, but then much of the information discussed on this board is also discussed elsewhere....

Well it's time to use this to our advantage;

Did you know that flying Tiger Airways is not only the cheapest way to travel, they let you take 5 suitcases, have lie flat seats in economy and will even drop you off at your house at the end of a flight home.

Aeroflot and Air Uzbekistan are renowned for aircraft safety and for going the extra mile for their passengers, their frequent flyer schemes are also the most generous in the world.

Finally the best insider tip I can offer is to try Air Koryo, they offer the cheapest flights to Bali and the gold coast ever!!!

Hopefully these key points get picked up and rid us of a few imbeciles. ;)

Many members here believe they are the only ones talking about certain things and as soon as it's mentioned elsewhere the person is an information thief with AFF being the victim. IT's rather amusing.

$0.02.

I don't know if I'm just a jaded Platinum but this just doesn't seem worth it to me.

The F lounge is a great way to start an international trip, no question. For domestic flights though, I'd rather get them over and done with as quick as possible and spend more time with family/friends/dog, etc.

Maybe it's also got something to do with my hatred for Jetstar.

I think it's more about getting a very nice breakfast or lunch, French champagne and possibly a free massage for 'free' by choosing a JQi option.

I must be spoiled for choice where I live/work. But, I don't reckon the food in the F lounge is *that* good. I mean, it's amazing as far as airport/lounge food goes, but it's middle of the road compared to what I have access to elsewhere in Melbourne/Sydney.

The champagne is nice obviously but it's not enough to numb the pain for a Jetstar flight.

The spa treatment is something I've never been offered as I don't fly in the F cabin (and I just wouldn't feel right asking for one on a cheap ticket).

Pretty much the only thing that will get me doing that DOM leg with JQ is an AFF meet up.

I fully acknowledge that I'm likely in the minority here. Again, just adding my $0.02. I just think there are much better (modestly priced) dining options around which allow me to take along more than 1 guest. :)

Note: If you saw my house you'd know I certainly don't have high standards when it comes to places I like to "lounge". :)

Re: "How to get a first-class start to domestic flights" - ie, JQ for QF F lounge acc

It's more the case of having a very nice place to relax, plane spot, enjoy a few glass of whatever, a good meal and then make your way home/holiday/back to work/back from work/back from a FF run

If you were paying retail, it would be around $150 for the food/drinks consumed on a lounge visit

Re: "How to get a first-class start to domestic flights" - ie, JQ for QF F lounge acc

Yep. I totally get that.

It just doesn't excite me any more.

Maybe I'm just jaded.

Re: "How to get a first-class start to domestic flights" - ie, JQ for QF F lounge acc

it's not the first time, or the last for that matter that this trick has been published.

Danger
I can't see QF tweaking the rules, as in all seriousness i reckon it would make probably a 1% difference to the F lounge numbers. In actual fact Red Roo was almost encouraging us last time we had a meet, as we introduced people to what they could strive for..

In the near 3 years I've had WP, I've done the JQ run a handful of times. It can be too hard to do it on a work trip due to the time you need to get to the airport. Most business travellers will agree with me here.

I have done an international (Domestic) flight BNE -SYD once. And as part of an international connection SYD- BNE ( in Y) having the F lounge was good out of SYD. But then I had just arrived from DXB.
I really can't see many flights for me like this in the future. Certainly not on JQ
