The best seats in J are the bulkheads as there is more foot room. If you are PPS you can book select these seats otherwise you may get lucky at check in if they are available.

The bulkheads seem to become available for on line selection at least 48 hours prior to departure. I think I stumbled across them being available about three days out or so (this was to AMS).

It's a trade off - proximity to the galley vs wide open space for the legs and feet. Given the 10-fold increase in seating comfort this is probably the only airline I'd recommend taking a seat so close to the galley (unless you are ultra short and are comfortable in the cubby-hole seats!)

Haha yep I’m ultra short at 5’7”. Haven’t experienced sq J so not sure but old suites was great plenty of room! I’m gonna regret going to J!

The problem for me is that the cubby-hole for your lower legs is down one side so yes, you'll still have to go into a 'S' shape - but some are Ok with that.

I think SQ has one of the smallest differences between F and J in terms of soft product. The service is outstanding in both classes. The meals are probably equally as good in each, minus the caviar and a slight downgrade in champagne. Conversely they have one of the biggest differences in terms of hard product... unrestricted beds in F v cubby-holed feet in J.

So it depends on what you're after. If it's a flat bed to sleep, there are probably better business classes for that. If it's the soft product expereince... SQ J almost a first class 'lite'.

My vote would be SYD-SIN: QF (a330), QF (a380), BA. SYD-HKG: QF (a330), CX or VA, QF (a380 or 747 depends on what QF are using).

I am a OW flyer so I would choose QF or CX for the F lounges at both ends, however VA is a good product.

Ok thanks. I just collect points on my Amex plat edge and Citibank visa. Then transfer to whichever is best. I have been using sq mostly. Though may give VA and CX a try.

J is absolutely fine. I have some upcoming flights and no hesitation booking F one way but J on the return when far more economical to do so. This is on the A380.

I need to adjust my advice. I flew within a week in F then in J, on the A380. While J was ok, I really felt the difference from F, particularly service and quality of food and drink. By no means a bad flight, but it was a notch down. Seat was very wide but not that customisable so a bit uncomfortable too.
