Hi all, First JETSTAR flight.... Booked.
1. Do I check in at kiosk or with a person with suitcase?
2. Do they allocate a seat or or is it what's left as board plane?
3. Is there room for backpack under seat and will they weigh Carry on?
4. Do you get free glass of water on flight?
5. Any inflight "electronic" entertainment for free?
6. Anything else to be aware of compared to Virgin flights?

1. If HLO then you can check in online or at kiosk.
2. If you didn't select your seat online you'll get what's left.
3. There is room for standard size backpack and I haven't seen JQ weighing carry on in AU for quite a while but you never know...
4. Yes but you must ask for it.
5. No
6. In case of delays or cancellations don't expect getting on the next flight soon because most likely there won't be one ;)

Which route are you travelling on as a matter of interest?

I had my first Jetstar flight a few weeks ago out of necessity, was given exit row for free at check in, which was great cause I could have a chat to the cabin crew working who were lovely. All up, it was a great flight..Which really surprised me.

Thankyou all
Is it worth asking for exit rows for free in checkin or is that more likely to have me end up on the toilet?
Do they put the kids up the back?

I had paid for standard seat selection in the Plus pack, and then for some reason the check in staff told me that the computer bumped me on its own to an exit row, and then changed it to Row 1.
I wouldn't expect anything for free with Jet*, I had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised but I didn't go in expecting a VA or QF experience.

Received ticket via email finally....like two days? Had my home state wrong even though the post code was correct....WTF?
Rang them and fixed it.

Expect to have the times for your flights changed at least once. Then with 12 hours or less to go, to have your flight cancelled.

As long as the flight time will change to later.....lets just say I have more experience than most with dealing with different flight times ;)
Cancelled....wont they just put us on a Qantas flight?
Does AMEX edge have internal flight delay insurance?

Edit:
  • Travel Inconvenience Cover[SUP]5[/SUP] may even cover you for flight delays, missed connections or luggage delays

If JQ were to cancel a flight, I would not expect to be put onto a QF flight. If you were, I'd suggest you'd be considered lucky.

So I'm pretty good with the songs and dance routine but of that don't work is HILTON at airport overnight via Amex edge the best way to move forward... Do you just follow-up with Amex or is it Amex then get room?

Expect to be stranded at your own expense. Jetstar are notoriously unreliable.

I must have been lucky! Jetstar Melbourne to Perth was cancelled about 12 hours before departure but I was rebooked on next available Qantas flight which was about 2 hours later. Great outcome.

Song and Dance won't get you anywhere.

With a touch of perspective, I honestly believe we are getting to the stage of overthinking here.

Keep your expectations low, and you will be fine. I had a JQ flight from HNL cancelled many years ago, but as Platinum then I was moved to a QF flight. I now only use JQ for short domestic flights, SYD-OOL, SYD-MEL etc and have not had a domestic flight cancelled and, from memory, all flights were pretty much on time. Considering those flights are only about an hour duration, I don't need coffee or food, so all up I have had a good experience with them, and they very competitive with Virgin insofar as costs. It's just another seat.

It's an internal flight I have booked. I expect it to go without issue but just preparing backup ie. Amex edge option, they have a later flight that they could bump me too.

I booked return flights PER to MELB very early in April for November... Both flights were cancelled by Jetstar and I was re-scheduled via their email to flights departing or arriving at times that were less convenient.
I always pay the extra charge to select my seat to ensure I am not way at the rear of the plane. All the food available to buy inflight is awful and overpriced...Suggest a stop at a shop on the way to the airport for sandwiches or packets of nuts etc for a longer flight.
On the return flight Jetstar had moved to their new Terminal space at Tullamarine and had lots of staff on the ground that week assisting passengers to check in ... Seems like printing your own baggage tags and weighing in your own luggage is the way of the future .. Feels a bit like the self serve check outs at Woolies though!

Both times that I have booked with Jetstar, with each time having the flight cancelled, I was rebooked on QF. The same for my daughter last week. But I think we have now learned our lesson.
