LOL I won't be "greateful" at all, I am a paying customer, they should be "greatful" that they are getting my business.

As for Europe, that is irrelevant.

Many Virgin flights offer seat back ife so I don't see why Australia's cough premium airline cannot either.

What is Virgin's current solution for IFE on their 737's?

...

How is a led touch screen stuffed into a hole in the seat heavier than an Ipad?

If you mean easier as in easier to throw a few Ipads at people rather than spend money and purchase seats with touch screens then yes it is easier, but is it what you expect from a full service carrier?

Even though it will be a step up from the wall mounted screens many of the 767 have now it is still just a cheap cough way of providing entertainment.

Will J class still have screens in the seats or do they get a silver Ipad?
"cheapass" like virgin having tablets on their NEW aircraft!!! or cheapass because qantas is doing it as a refresh to its older aircraft due to the constant delays by boeing on its 787

Again with respect the answer is simple DONT fly Qantas if you are unhappy with the offering. I note you coment MANY Virgin Flights and not all so really dont understand your issue with Qantas not doing the same and trying to make things a little better with Tablets on offer or would you rather just have the old large screens or drop down TV that was common place not so long ago.
i agree totally here...if the poster dislikes the qf product SO much...fly 'another' airline and experience the 'hit or miss' aircraft with either inseat vid or tablets or nuthing!!!

getting back to the 'real world'... if anyone has flown the refurb OGQ..please post your experience and/or pics..we all love a TR!!:)
...i THINK i've heard every 2-3weeks aprox another refurb will come on line til all 16 complete by mid2013

Be good to see the refurb product. Does it extend to all the plastic stuff as well? (excuse my technical language!)

Many of the newer qf aircraft do as well.

The last virgin flight I was on that had ife was done by galaxy tabs.

Mid 2013 is a very quick turnaround I would imagine considering that there are 16 of them, and to completely put a new product in would take much longer...

I have seen on here many people complain about or suggest many things, and also praise things, yet when someone puts forward an argument about how something could be improved upon, or changed the canned reply for the sheep or Qantas fan boyz who could not possibly see anything wrong with Qantas or Alan Joyce and who just go with the flow is "Don't fly with them it's simple".

But really it is not that simple and I prefer to fly Qantas, and am simply pointing out that imo they are being tight cough by handing out Ipads instead of doing a proper upgrade.

The weight issue must be WiFi v wired.
Cannot see why it is not possible to install WiFi LED screens v wired.
No need to collect an recharge every night
.

Maybe not for a refit but in new planes someone must be considering this.
Exactly, but the arguments so far are that it will need certification and it is also possible that the wifi will also weigh 2 tonnes.

You still need a lot of power wiring, not to mention the setup and ongoing updates and maintenance required for IFE systems.

Personally I like to know and plan what I want to watch, so the only time I use the IFE is when I'm eating, otherwise I'm on my iPad or Retina Macbook Pro watching my own content in 720 or 1080p
 good luck eating and using the IFE when it is an Ipad.

No just stock standard cheap-cough move by Qantas.

Again, you call it cheap cough. What is solution being offered by virgin on their new 737 fleet and their ejets?

Just noticed that on the Qantas seap map PDF on the their website shows OGQ as a separate PDF. Was this like this before? The only difference, I can really spot, from the other OG series planes is the lack of a bassinet in Business class. I though I might be in with a chance to see the updated bird as my A332 was swapped out for a 763 a few days ago in my booking for my trip on tomorrow - SYD-PER in J but so far it looks like I am on a ZX machine. Bummer.

Personally I would prefer them to take out the IFE completely for domestic flights and use the saved monies for better food on board in less restrictive hours.

I think if you keep referring to QF as cheap cough you aren't going to get sensible responses.

QF have done a revamp of their aircraft - in doing so they have spent money on a new IFE system - you might not like but some will. Personally I couldn't care less about IFE.

Interesting aircraft movements of new aircraft - have they broken it already?

I have a few 763 flights coming up so hopefully I might get to try it - wont be asking for the iPad though :)

Be careful how you define domestic. Its not just one hour hops on the east coast.

Syd-per is over 5 hours and I'm sure IFE is very important to the bulk of pax.

Certainly - each to their own. Again for me personally even flying to PER I would not use the IFE - though I am sure many do.

I am the same, with the inconsistent product choices on offer re IFE it does not make sense to rely on it for entertainment, so I BYO be it 1 hour or 5, that way its a bonus if I get AVOD or even something I like on the centre screen!

While I can see where Mal Ware is coming from, I don't agree entirely.

Yes, a better product would be screens built into seat backs, even with wifi, if for no other reason than having space for a meal, however I can see past the obviousness that these planes won't be flying too much longer, so the amount it would cost to refurb them completely is silly. I do agree, seatback IFE looks first rate.

The question to be asking though, is how they handle IFE in the future, as this brings me to my other point that the great thing about the new IFE is they'll be releasing an app eventually to allow customers to BYO devices. To some, this may seem even worse, but it's nice to be able to use your own device for things. So I wonder if there's a way the 787's for example, could be fitted with a seatback wifi IFE system that also works with customers own apps on their devices. Then you get to pick which you'd like to use. Power in every seat would be very useful in a set up like that.

The other great thing with iPads (or tablet-based IFE) is a touch screen is much friendlier for games than those silly remote controls and appalling touch screens they already use on their 738's. Keyboard clicks with my finger never seem to register when I fly, but I'm having no problems on my iPad right now.

And another question, which iPads are they using, and will they be choosing the new iPad mini for say economy pax as they more forward, to differentiate screen sizes between cabins. Also cheaper for them. There should be volume by the time they have a few planes refurbed.

VH-OGQ was sitting outside Hangar 3 at BNE Airport as of this morning and was for all last week.

I would say that some of that is erroneous data.

No, OGQ did operate a revenue service last week after a ferry to Sydney. Then its been back in the shed since so to speak, obviously an issue.

'plastic stuff'.. are you referring to the hosties !!!! (joke)

I never been known to be that shallow!!

I was on a 767 on the weekend and noticed it looked like the inside of my old XC falcon. A bit yellow and faded. They were the bits I was referring to........

Having a closer look at the data I would say I stand corrected, 552 does not operate at the hours OGQ supposedly operated that flight on the 24th, so it would seem its not yet in service.
