First refurbished 767 enters service end of the month [Oct '12]

Looks good as a sensible, time effective fix for these birds considering the life left in some of them.

So much for the problem of storage at meal time, simple.

Does anyone know what is happening to the dreamtime seats in the 4 international 767's?

Now it's just the 734's which are feeling a little old, but funnily enough still nice enough to fly in :)

I note the following from the pics:

- No improvement in business leg room. Pretty rough for a 3 grand+ ticket coast to coast
- Business seat also seems narrow.
- The economy picture is deceptive. The two passengers have got their seat reclined but the ones in front aren't.

Just a few observations.....

To me a Qantas plane always feels more "welcoming" than a Virgin plane, not really sure why though!

Again, I really like that Qantas has finally decided to upgrade the 767's until the A330/787's arrive, or whatever QF decide to do for domestic

QF never stated that they were changing the seats, just re-upholstering them.

As for the width, are they not wider than the sleepers that DJ offer on their ex-EK birds?

The seats are exactly the same size as previously, because they are the same seats, recovered (in leather for J). So same pitch and width. Qantas made that very clear when it was all first announced.

The seats are the same as before, it was never mentioned they were changing
The J seats are better than the 737's on Virgin
The best J seats are the moment are the NEW A330's on Virgin, but that's IF you get them

Pictures will always look better than the actual experience, all airlines do this

Has there been any mention on security precuations for people that stupidly avail the aircraft of an ipad?

I know it will be locked by apple so completely useless if anyone were to steal one, but that won't stop idiots trying

Friends who have flown on the trial aircraft told me the QF supplied iPads have sim cards in them, and the 3G radio was active during the flight. Presumably this is so they can be locked remotely should they happen to wander.

So presumably to get audio, you need to plug your headset into the iPad? Rather annoying then if you are in an aisle seat and another passenger wishes to go to the bathroom. Need to unplug ones headset to allow them through. Probably not a huge deal in Y as you need to get up anyway, but in J it would be.

And if you are in an Y exit row seat you may need a slightly longer than normal cord with your earphones (I know - #firstworldproblem)

You got off well there, only lectured by 3 Qantas spokespersons on here for your indescretion.

Remember nothing negative should be said about the holey Q......Nuutzzing! ;)

That shouldnt really be a problem, stepping over or tripping over someone while they are watching a show or sleeping is something that will only occur for a short time until the new aircraft arrive.

It makes more sense financially do use the Ipads and I personally think if QF can save some money its a good thing.

Who is to say that future a/c won't have a similar system. There are airlines out there, Virgin Aus being one such example who are looking at this style of IFE.

I flew on this aircraft today and have plenty of pics of the iPad (and Qstreaming going on my iPhone too). I'll post tonight when I'm home.

I think the iPads are jail broken. Button functionality is different. The home button does nothing. Powering up and down is done by holding the top and home button in for 5 seconds. Boot up is the normal process, but it immediately loads Safari, and goes to a bookmark for Qstreaming. You cannot exit Safari.

The iPad would be useless away from the wifi on the aircraft ... Although you may be able to put it in DFU mode and reinstall iOS. I do not plan on testing that though!

They are iPad 2.

We will hear more on future aircraft tomorrow I believe.

DJ in Aus are using Galaxy Tabs and so are AA IIRC in America on their domestic First and international business class flights on their 767-300s.

Add Air Asia X, West jet, Delta, Open Skies, the already mentioned Scoot, Easy Jet and the Spirit of Tassie all using tablets (yes I know thats not a plane, in which case its On Sea Entertainment).
