First refurbished 767 enters service end of the month

So what refurbishment has been done in J class on international config aircraft? New upholstery on 20 year old Dreamtime (Mk1) seats?

What's wrong with the ol dreamtime? Anyways comfortable from my perspective.

Dreamtime seats really aren't good enough for an 8 hour flight.

You can't compare them to BA's Club Europe as they max out at 4 hours 50 min flights.

Indeed and HNL-SYD is 10 hours 40 min.

As to Sprucegoose's comment about CX. I can recall flying CX back in 2005 on the A330 and they already had an angled lie flat. I think pitch was 58 inches. Then they went to their first herringbone fully flat bed which was not great but miles better than a Dreamtime and they are replacing it with a new superb product. They do have a regional business class but that is not used on long haul.

The most peculiar aspect of this is that I'm pretty sure that HNL is now the only long-haul destination suffering with ancient product. Given the boom in tourism to Hawaii with HA running up to 10 flights per week SYD-HNL why wouldn't QF have a market for an A330 or even 744 service three times a week and run a uniform international product. Lack of available aircraft? Tend to doubt it as they shift them around all the time on other routes.

Regional J has been used on the HKG BNE and HKG ADL/ MEL until the PE aircraft came online. I would call that long haul.

You are absolutely right. I was exaggerating for effect. Now let me ask, what other carrier with pretensions of being one of the worlds leading airlines is still offering a long-haul product like this heading into 2013? Photos: Boeing 767-338/ER Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net
Yep that's the seat, flew on a very similar one just a few weeks ago.

The 767's fly what many would consider regional routes, not long haul. You also have to consider the market that the aircraft is serving too. Earlier this year I flew Cathay Pacific Colombo to Bangkok (with the a/c continuing to Hong Kong), on a seat similar to that. I believe the full flight time Colombo to Hong Kong is about 6-7 hours or so with BKK about half way. And then on the same trip I flew BKK-SYD on Thai airways on a 747 also with a similar sit-up style seat, flight time over 8 hours. BA also use 767's with these seats on some routes over 4 hours, although I will concede on the longer routes they have bed fitted aircraft.

But really what exactly do you want Qantas to do? Go out and invest squillions on replacing seats on the 767 when they have announced they will be gone in a few short years or maybe hand Honololu over to Jetstar alltogether?

Until recently CX were flying regional seats hkg-DXB-Jed - not so much fun...

If so it would have only been a short term measure into MEL. How long ago was that? What's a PE aircraft? Point is that CX don't do it anymore on the aforementioned routes. But yes it seems there are occassional exampes of other 'premium' airlines being shoddy like QF but not many.

QF 767's to HNL have been a permenant fixture since early 2007.

They still do it occasionally, and lets not forget on the HNL route there is hardly a better alternative, especially as the opposition runs 767s to BNE with recliner F.

Red Roo informed me the upgraded 767 will be on the SYD/HNL/SYD route, did not say when. We are going 1s March hoping then.

I don't think to MEL anytime recently.

Sure, thats how QF gets away with it i guess. But the HA A330 service out of Sydney is a modest improvement at around half the price for most of the year.

Because people continue to pay a premium for a substandard product.

One of the reasons QF is still in business.

Can we not get into this again? If you look through the site you will see much condemnation and criticism of QF. You also see much lauding of QF for the things that they do well. You will also see plenty of people not flying on QF to HNL due to the ridiculous price for a poor product - there however aren't much better options flying to HNL...

The endless blind dedication to QF is about the only thing I don't like about this site.

Go over to the Virgin thread and it is similar.

People like airline A but many will still air a grievance. You only need to look!
