For the HNL flights I agree - domestically I think with all the factors at hand it was quite savvy.

An aircraft can have a 25 year old airframe but be pretty on the inside.

Just because a plane has nice new seat covers doesn't make it any newer mechanically - not that the average punter would have a clue.

I believe this former QF bird is very pretty on the inside despite hitting 25.

Which pretty much typifies what we have with the QF 767s here (whether they are 25 years old is another thing).

You just hope it's like those old muscle cars really - they look really retro but still put out a good mileage.

I think they could have dome a better job than what they have, whoever selected the colour was colour blind.

and.. the seat covers, wonder why they have torn already.

Maybe so, however as you say it is a former QF bird not a current one so the fleet age of a former bird is not relevant of the age of the birds who currently fly to/from HNL as QF3 & QF4.

According to www.theqantassource.com the following 763's operated QF3/QF4. OGR & OGS were received by Qantas in 1997 with OGT & OGU the following year so are around 15 years old.

The 'old' bits in the Qantas 767 are really only the sidewalls and baggage bins, and I daresay bathrooms.
Now the seat covers and business handrests and ipads are new.

In the 25yrs service I am sure most of the important bits - wheels, landing gear, flaps, engines have been overhauled countless times.

Flew Mel-Syd in VH-OGR seat 3K last night, the refurb looks good, ipads were loaded and working. Seat comfort is still streets ahead of domestic J or JQ Star class. Even better than FJ J.

I'm sorry I'm confused. You say that there are not any seat back holders for the ipad. Is this opposed to the one hanging from the back of the headrest. Or do you mean a more fixed type bracket so the ipad doesn't need to be stashed in the seat pocket.

Your own iPad will not fit unless you have a strong cover on it as there is nothing at the bottom to hold it. The supplied one has a strong cover. I just had the thin put to sleep cover on mine and everytime the person in front moved on their seat it fell off, so in the end propped it up on the table with a pillow.

I agree, the hanging system is not ideal, My ipad 1st generation has quite a good rubber case from apple, but it was discontinued for the subsequent models, this was actually superior to the Qantas supplied cases.

Hmm - I didnt see one on the int'l config one I was on last week - if there was it certainly wasn't obvious to me.

Must have missed it - on the 763 I have only had front row of whY so nowhere to hook the iPad so I wasn't sure what to look for...

Well... I believe many would say, "Too bad, so sad." Call it bad fate if you will.

I guess they could swap out a A330 from say domestic ops and put it here (they'd need the crew as such, though). Or even swap it out from, say, MNL.

Main thing for now is that they somehow still fill that plane anyway. And my guess would be if numbers fell dramatically, the answer would not be improve the product, but withdraw.
