First time redeemer

Where is that thread?

That one finished in October; it was an Amex forex transfer bonus of 10k points for your first foreign transfer. just needed to pay your $10 transfer fee plus your transfer amount (could have been 1c if you wanted) :)

Just bumping this thread again in regards to the redemption changes- as I understand it the points required are going up but Business Savers will be available on A380s. I called up Krisflyer today to get an estimate on how much my preferred flights (ADL-CPH and ATH-ADL- currently 63750 on J saver each way pp) would cost after the changes, but she couldn't estimate. From the chart, standard J is going up from 150k to 190k, and Saver is half Standard so is going up 20k (pre-15% discount), so presumably these flights are now going to be 80750- up by 17k. Have I worked this out correctly?

Will the A380 Saver Js be at the same rate (80750)- the only way I'd get close to those points (323k) would be with the Platinum 80k bonus, which I can't do at the moment without a current paycheck (just moved to contract work).

From this chart : http://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/SQMI_OneWayAwardCharts_Mar2012.pdf

One Way: Zone 9 (East coast Australia) - Zone 11 (inc Copenhagen) J Saver = 80,000 miles

As ATH & CPH are in the same Zone 11, then a return is going to be 160,000 miles and 136,000 online.

No idea on the actual taxes.

Edit: If booked as a return, then one stopover is allowed in Singapore either outbound or inbound. If booked as separate one way journeys, same miles but you retain flexibility for the return leg but no stopover.

A pseudo stopover may be available where the SQ online booking engine allows an arrival on one day then a departure the following day, even on an saver award tix (I believe).

That's great to hear.
How much time in advance do you have to put a booking ahead of departure ?

If you want Saver to a popular destination it will be longer generally.
If you want to go Standard often you could go within the month and it can be inside a week or two.
(School holidays excepted).
I got the London Olympics in First on Standard so I thought that was pretty good.

As Cove says, it is subject to availability. You could in theory book a redemption seat the day before travel if the Saver seats are available. There does become a point of being able to plan the rest of your itinerary around your flights. The more people and places involved, the more you want to have everything locked away early so you can get in and enjoy the journey.
