So,
just got my WP last week and on Sat 31 am flying QF23 to BKK. Am looking forward to the flounge and am planning in getting there 2 hours early to have some brekky (any chance of getting 2 guests in? Both 18+?). Anything else I should try or plan for for? Am coming back in the 7th in QF 24 so any up to date tips re EK vs BA vs QF lounges in BKK are appreciated as well.

Thanks

Enjoy checking in at the F area at SYD AP and getting your express cards through immigration. Don't try to take two guests in, a refusal may offend and might even tarnish the experience.

Get there early enough that you can ask for a spa treatment if you enjoy that sort of thing (I can recommend the facial and neck massage). Enjoy the food.

At BKK AP when you check in ask for the express pass, it does save time.

I tried the TG lounges in BKK and didn't like them (too crowded). I couldn't get in to thier Flounge on QF ticket. I wanted to try the BA lounge (the old Flounge) but it was not open before QF24 so I went to the QF lounge which was good. Nice selection of food & wine and the shower was clean.

Little chance of 2 guests unless you are much better looking than me. Even then probably not.

I was travelling with 2 friends, who have never been near an intl lounge, let alone QFlounge, last week; really wanted to take them in. I went ahead and asked at the desk of the MEL lounge re 2 guests (as I was expecting a knockback and I didn't want to embarrass my friends or the lounge 'angel').

Yep, no dice. No-one embarrassed - it was worth asking as exceptions sometimes occur.

SYD Flounge can get crowded. If you have time, wait for a table to be available rather than having the breakfast at one of the casual chairs.

I was travelling with 2 friends at Easter on the same PNR and we checked in at the (MEL) F checkin. One was a QC member so I was simply going to front the F lounge reception with both and ask if I could guest the other into the F lounge, then take him downstairs later and guest him into the J lounge to join the QC member, hoping maybe they would say "oh, just all come in here". That way, I haven't asked for something not entitled to, and if there was no extra guest offered, no big deal, I would do what I had planned. But no need, the man who checked us in proactively (i.e. I had asked for nothing) said he would make an exception and ring the F lounge and ask them to let me take both guests in.

Big kudos to him (have to say it was the busiest I'd ever seen the Flounge), so maybe you have a chance, but as others have said, do not expect, and if an extra guest is permitted, treat it as a big bonus! :)

I always thought WP could guest 2 into the F Lounge...?

I've ever only done one. But i have dropped two in J then take one into F before.

My first Int sector as WP in June got me an unexpected upgrade to Business :) Later in Singapore, I used my charm to get my gf (QF PS) into the lounge, she was on a different flight :D Then my return sector scored me an almost empty PE cabin with extra dessert....sweeeet :D
Now I cant even stand going to the movies unless its Gold Class....what a snob I've become LOL

Sorry my comments are not really relevant to the OP questions....

SYD F lounge will be pretty busy in the morning so I wouldn't bother trying. Just deposit one friend in the J lounge and bring the other with you to F lounge.

Flew back on QF24 a few nights ago and was only one of 8 people in the EK lounge at that time, I suspect that the QF lounge would have been much busier.
Bonus also is that it was closer to the QF gate (E3 that night).

Emirates lounge has a nice view over the airport gardens, is showing its age in some areas (worn carpet) and retains that (in my mind) gaudy Emirates look of gold and wood, but was extremely pleasant.
As mentioned previously Moet champagne on ice, plus what looked liked some decent wines and a good beverage selection.
Decent food selection including satay sticks and other finger food, a couple of curries and a coconut soup.

That said, suspect EK will be pickier on access.

Agree also that the QF lounge is crazy at that morning hour before QF23 with from memory three flights to NZ, Singapore, Tokyo and Bangkok all departing within an hour of each other.

What is the situation if you are a WP and travelling with your family i.e. spouse and 2 teenage children (under 15)? Are the kids allowed in?

Yes, see here: Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club Lounges | Qantas

Qantas Lounges welcome you when travelling with your family˜. In addition to your normal guest allowance, you may also bring up to two children aged between 3 and 17 into lounges operated by Qantas. There are no limitations for infants under 3 years of age. If you are travelling with more than two children, the Qantas lounge manager will try to accommodate them, subject to reviewing the space available in the lounge.

I dont want to rain on your WP parade but unfortunately QF23 is not the best sector to be your maiden WP experience. At that time of the morning Sydney airport is at its busiest. You will be fine checking in and using the express pass through immigration, but the new security check is a complete cough-fest. Prepare for a long wait through security. Once through, the lounge is all you have been told but it will likely be full. I have not been able to get a table as a single traveler any of the last four times on QF23. Normally I end up at the bar, but have ended up on the couch. Downside of the bar is you cant eat and iPad or Laptop browse at the same time. Make sure you order the corn fritters. Excellent. if in the mood for a drink ask them if there is anything interesting or special open in the way of bubbles or wine.

Then there is the flight. QF23 is one of of Qantas' oldest A330s. If you are in J your seat will not be fully flat - rather angled flat. If in Y you will have small dark screens to contend with for the video entertainment.

Sorry to bring you down but I know how much I looked forward to day one in the big leagues and want you to be prepped.

:-( well I suppose I'm off to AKL in a couple of weeks, so I'll plan that one better

LOL - expect the worst and you won't be disappointed.:p

FWIW, QF23 is fine for a day flight - lay flat beds are not an issue even if a short nap is taken (A bit different for QF24 ;)).

I treat it as a a Gold Class cinema Matinee¹ after a champagne breakfast. :D

¹ With multi choise programming and an ability to pause while you visit the lav. :p

I am almost counting down the days til the end of October and my first FLounge adventure as a kick-off to a holiday in Thailand. Flying MEL-SIN on QF35 then overnight in SIN before flying to HKT the next morning. Got a discount economy flight so fingers crossed for a beep at the gate as I can't upgrade it with points :(

From what I've been reading its a slim thing to get the beep. Doesn't hurt to be an op(up)timist though.

Got my first WP beep after about 2 years on QF23 about a month ago...expect nothing, enjoy it when it comes.
