Flat-bed in premium economy?

I'm intrigued by this assertion:
"As we move closer to a future of air travel where traditional cabin class labels lose all meaning ..."
I can't see any sign of such movement.

Very interesting. I agree mixing cabins would probably be a killer of this idea, but it does show some good thinking in using space.

At the end of the day what is 'mixed cabins'? There are a lot of people out there who would be happy to pay just for the extra space and receive the same economy service. So if it is 'one service level' on the plane but with a mix of 'seat spaces' in which pricing is differed. Kinda like charging for an exit row seat. Same service you just pay for space.

no, what they mean is that there are rows of PE mixed with J - basically the business pax are in higher suites with a row of premium economy sticking their feet under them. Means you can pack more in or offer the extra feet room to the PE people - but in means that the rows are staggered - so a J drinks trolley would be going past PE rows and vice versa

Yeah I get that. But what I am saying is it doesn't stop an airline having the same service for all seats where the only differentiator is the seat itself. I.e it is one class of cabin service.

understood. I would actually like that - my main desire is always space (am 6'7" - yes - that is my fault :) )

I would trade any business class seat I have ever had, with all the bells and whistles "service", for a simple single mattress on the floor.

My main reason for flying J/F is the sleeping space. Can cope with basic food and no alcohol, just give me room and a power point.

The space (and the inability to sell it to anyone else) is the major cost. Everything else is peanuts.

I'm the opposite! It's the trimmings that help me forget how small the space is.

It's why I'm not a huge fan of PE as a product – everything's a compromise. I'd prefer PE with J service, or J service with a PE seat (at a much lower price of course).

thank you for clearing that up, i actually thought i was going a bit dense! ;-)
