Flexi Fares, Not So Much!

I'm still trying to imagine a situation where a flexi fare would be advantageous.

Can anyone site any personal experiences where it worked out to be cheaper to have a flexi fare? After reading (elsewhere on this forum) that early morning inter-captial-city flights carry a large % of pax flying on flexi, there must be hundreds of cases where flexi is an obvious advantage over flying on a saver fare.

I appreciate your comment, swanning_it, but I am still fearing for my sanity as I can't for the life of me figure this out - it should be so obvious why it would be an advantage, but it seems so obvious to me that it's almost always going to be much more costly.

Just lastly, whatever the actual ticket class I purchased under the flexi-bucket, having logged into 'manage my booking' and looked at all available flights to change the current flight to over the next 10 months (looking at every available flight) the price (apart from a few days just after the original date of the flight) are all $249 each way across the board, an extra $80 return on the original cost of the ticket. I guess this means that there are no more of the same tickets available... or at least not at that rate, despite there being other tickets in the same bucket cheaper.
